Engine Accessory Bracket: Service and Repair
Engine Bracket
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine support bridge (10-222 A)
• Adapter (10-222 A/3)
• Adapter (10-222 A/13)
• Adapter (10-222 A/18)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 6362)
Removing
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (e.g. for fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
- Remove engine cover --> [ Engine Cover ] Engine Cover.
- Remove intake hose --> [ 1 Intake Tube ] Air Filter Assembly Overview between the MAF sensor and intake scoop. Loosen hose clips with hose clip pliers (VAS 6362).
- Remove windshield washer fluid reservoir filler neck
- Remove coolant reservoir --> [ 7 Coolant Reservoir ] [1][2]Cooling System Components Assembly Overview, Body Side from the body (the coolant lines remain connected).
- Remove the auxiliary fuel pump. The fuel lines remain connected. Refer to --> [ Auxiliary Fuel Pump ] Auxiliary Fuel Pump.
- Remove fuel filter (the fuel lines remain connected) --> [ Fuel Filter ] Fuel Filter, Fuel Filter, Removing and Installing.
- Remove front right wheel housing liner
- Position engine support bridge (10-222 A) with the necessary adapters as illustrated and support the engine in the installation position.
• The subframe bolts may only be loosened when the engine is supported with the engine support bridge (10-222 A).
• The engine bracket may only be loosened only when the engine mount is removed.
- Loosen bolts - 4 - on the engine bracket - 5 -.
- Then remove engine mount bolts - 5 - in the following sequence:
- Bolts - 3 -.
- Bolts - 1 and 2 -.
- Bolts - 4 -.
- Remove engine mount - 5 -.
CAUTION!
Make sure that no components/hoses are damaged, overstretched or torn when lifting or lowering engine using the engine support bridge.
• Bolt - 1 - can be reached through an opening in the wheel housing. If necessary, raise and lower the engine with the spindle on the engine support bridge (10-222 A) to remove or install the bolts - 2 - and - 3 -.
- Remove engine bracket bolts in sequence - 3 to 1 -.
- Remove engine bracket upward.
Installing
CAUTION!
Always use the correct tightening sequence and specifications for the engine bracket bolts. Otherwise tension could develop in the engine bracket and break it.
• Tightening specifications, refer to --> [ Subframe Mount Assembly Overview ] Subframe Mount Assembly Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Insert engine bracket from above.
• Bolt - 1 - can be reached through an opening in the wheel housing. If necessary, raise and lower the engine with the spindle on the engine support bridge (10-222 A) to remove or install the bolts - 2 - and - 3 -.
- First tighten bolts by hand in sequence - 1 to 3 -.
- Tighten bolts to specification in sequence - 1 to 3 -.
- Position engine mount - 5 - and tighten bolts to the specification in the following sequence:
- Bolts - 3 -.
- Bolts - 1 and 2 -.
- Using the spindle, bring the engine bracket into position on the engine mount - 5 -.
- Tighten bolts - 4 -.
- Check position of the engine and subframe mount --> [ Engine Subframe Mount, Checking Adjustment ] Engine Subframe Mount, Checking Adjustment.
Further installation is in reverse order. When doing this note the following:
• Make sure fuel lines are securely fastened.
• Do not interchange supply and return lines (return line is blue or has blue marking, supply line is black).
