Thermostat: Service and Repair






Coolant Thermostat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

SW 10 hex ball socket (3185)

Refractometer (T10007)

Multi-point socket (T10058)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Drip tray for workshop crane (VAS 6208)

Spring-type clip pliers (6362)

Removing

- Drain coolant. Refer to --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] [1][2]Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

- Remove throttle valve control module. Refer to--> [ Intake Manifold with Attachments Assembly Overview ] Intake Manifold With Attachments Assembly Overview.

- Remove coolant hose from the connection.

- Loosen bolts - 4 - on connection - 3 - with a 10 mm flex wrench (3185), remove with socket (T10058) and remove connection - 3 - with the coolant thermostat - 1 -.





- Rotate coolant thermostat - 1 - 1/ 4 turn (90°) to the left and remove it from the connection - 3 -.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Always replace seals, sealing rings and O-rings.

- Coat new O-ring - 2 - with coolant.





- Insert coolant thermostat - 1 - in the connecting piece - 3 - and turn it 1/4 (90°) turn to the right.

The clip of the thermostat must be positioned at approximately right angle.

- Insert connection - 3 - with coolant thermostat - 1 - in the cylinder block.

- Tighten bolts - 4 - with a 10 mm flex wrench (3185).

Tightening specifications 15 Nm.

- Secure connection coolant hose.

- Install throttle valve control module. Refer to --> [ Intake Manifold with Attachments Assembly Overview ] Intake Manifold With Attachments Assembly Overview.

- Fill with coolant. Refer to --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] [1][2]Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
