Fan Shroud
The charge air pipe clamps must be tightened to 5.5 Nm. An insufficient or excessive tightening torque can cause the charge air hose to come off the charge air pipe while driving.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)
Removing
- Remove the upper fan shroud bolts - 1 -.
• The left bolt is under the coolant connector.
- Remove the charge air pipe from the noise generator, if equipped. Refer to => [ Charge Air Pipe from Noise Generator ] Charge Air Pipe from Noise Generator.
- Loosen the hose clamp - 2 -.
- Remove the bolt - 4 -.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors - arrow - and free up the electrical wire.
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Disconnect the charge air hose by lifting the clamp - 1 - and loosening the clamp - 2 -.
- Seal off the connections on the charge air cooler with a clean cloth.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - and remove the charge air pipe downward.
- Disconnect the connector - 2 -.
- Remove the lower fan shroud bolts - 3 - and remove the fan shroud downward.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Radiator, Fan Shroud and Coolant Fans Overview ] Radiator, Fan Shroud and Coolant Fans Overview.
- Install the charge air pipe. Refer to => [ Charge Air Hose and Pipe, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Charge Air Hose and Pipe, Disconnecting and Connecting.
