Suspension Arm Removal and Installation




Suspension Arm Removal and Installation

NOTE:

- If the steering knuckle assembly is not removed and installed carefully, the drive shaft dust cover and brake dust cover may damage the dust boots of the suspension arm joints.
When removing and installing the steering knuckle assembly, be careful not to damage the suspension arm joint dust boots.
- The suspension arm bolts and nut are pre-coated with friction stabilizer. If these bolts and nut are reused, they may work loose.
Be sure to replace the suspension arm bolts and nut with new ones whenever they are removed.

Removal

1) Hoist vehicle and remove front wheel on the side concerned. Removal and Replacement
2) Remove front brake caliper and front brake rotor. Front Brake Disc Removal and Installation
3) Remove tie-rod end. Service and Repair
4) Remove clip (2) and suspension arm joint nut (1).





5) Remove drive shaft nut, then remove front drive shaft (1). Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation
6) Remove steering knuckle (3) from suspension arm ball joint (2) using ball joint remover (4).





7) Remove suspension arm bolts (1) and suspension arm nut (2), then remove suspension arm (3).






Installation

Suspension Arm Inspection
1) Install suspension arm (3) using new suspension arm bolts (1) and suspension arm nut (2). Temporarily tighten suspension arm nut (2).





2) Install suspension arm joint to steering knuckle.
3) Install front drive shaft. Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation
4) Tighten new suspension arm joint nut (1) to specified torque and install clip (2).

Tightening torque
Suspension arm joint nut (a): 55 Nm (5.6 kgf-m, 40.5 lbf-ft)





5) Tighten drive shaft nut to specified torque. Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation
6) Install front brake caliper and front brake rotor. Front Brake Disc Removal and Installation
7) Install front wheel and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque. Removal and Replacement
8) Lower hoist and bounce vehicle body up and down several times to stabilize suspension and then tighten suspension arm bolts and suspension arm nut in this sequence to specified torques.

Tightening torque
Suspension arm bolt (a): 98 Nm (10.0 kgf-m, 72.5 lbf-ft)
Suspension arm nut (b): 98 Nm (10.0 kgf-m, 72.5 lbf-ft)





9) Check front wheel alignment. Front Suspension
