Removal and Replacement
Illustrated On Model 124 Sedan/Coupe:
Removing, installing
DANGER: Risk of explosion from fuel igniting, risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin from contact with fuel.
- No fire, sparks, naked flame and smoking. Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked vessels. Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.
1 Drain fuel tank, fill.
- Refer to Fuel Tank 2 below
2 Remove fuel tank paneling as well as left and right side paneling in trunk
3 Remove fuel hose on intake side (53), fuel return hose (74) and vent line (76/1)
NOTE: Collect remaining fuel, seal connections

4 Remove fuel tank (75)

5 Check insulating strips (75/5)
- Replace if necessary. Glue on insulating strips (self adhesive)
6 Remove fuel strainer (26)
- Clean and check for reusability
- Refer to Fuel Tank 1 below
NOTE: The splash bowl in the fuel tank is secured against turning with 2 pins. It is attached together with the fuel strainer (26)
7 Replace O-ring (26/1)
- Oil to facilitate installation
8 Install in the reverse order
9 Dispose of fuel tank
