A1: RETRIEVE DTCS
NOTE: Battery and or ECM disconnection prior to scanning will erase all data, ensure that the correct DTC is present.
Connect scan tool.
Record DTC(s), freeze frame data and go to A2
A2: MECHANICAL SYSTEM CHECK
Carry out a system mechanical verification.
- Fuel cap missing or incorrectly fitted?
- Fuel cap seal defective?
- Leak / damage on carbon canisters or evaporative pipework?
- CCV incorrectly fitted?
- Purge valve vacuum line leak or blockage?
- Purge line blocked?
- Purge line damaged / leaking?
Yes
Rectify fault(s)
Go to A6
No
Go to A3
A3: CHECK PURGE VALVE RESISTANCE
With EM039 disconnected, measure the resistance of the EVAP valve coil at pins 1 and 2
Is the resistance between 25 and 40 Ohms?
Yes
Reconnect EM039
Go to A4
No
Renew EVAP valve
A4: CHECK ELECTRICAL FEED
With EM015, EM039 and EM010 disconnected:
Use an appropriate link lead to bridge EM010/016 and EM010/023 (to energize EMS control relay)
Measure the voltage between EM039/001 and EM010/022
B+ ?
Yes
Go to A5
No
Inspect harness / connectors EM010, EM039 and splice EMS30 for bent / pushed back pins, damage or corrosion. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.
A5: CHECK CURRENT DRAWN
With EM039 disconnected, measure the resistance between EM015/003 and EM039/002
Is the resistance < 0.5 Ohms ?
Yes
Go to A6
No
Go to B5 P0444
A6: END
Perform appropriate service drive cycle and check for the presence of DTC.
Has the fault code cleared?
Yes
STOP
No
