B1: RETRIEVE DTCS

NOTE: Battery and or ECM disconnection prior to scanning will erase all data, ensure that the correct DTC is present.

Connect scan tool.
Record DTC(s), freeze frame data and go to B2.

B2: CHECK PURGE VALVE RESISTANCE

With EM039 disconnected measure resistance of EVAP valve coil at pins 1 and 2.

Is resistance between 25 and 40 Ohms?

Yes
Reconnect EM039
Go to B3

No
Renew EVAP valve

B3: CHECK ELECTRICAL FEED

NOTE: The engine will NOT start if F14 or relay 1 is at fault.

With EM039 disconnected, measure the voltage at pin 1 with respect to ground (EM010/022).

B+ ?

Yes
Go to B4

No
Inspect the harness / connector EM039, EM019, splice EMS30 for corrosion, bent / pushed back pins.
Check fuse F14 and that EMS relay 1 is energised. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.

B4: CHECK HARNESS CONTINUITY

With EM015 and EM039 disconnected, measure resistance between EM015/003 and EM039/002.

Is resistance < 0.5 Ohms?

Yes
Go to B5

No
Inspect EM015 and EM039 for corrosion, bent / pushed back pins. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.

B5: CHECK FOR SHORT TO B+

With EM015, EM010 and EM039 disconnected, measure the voltage between EM015/003 and ground EM010/022.

0 V?

Yes
Go to B6

No
Inspect harness / connectors EM010, EM039, EM019 and splice EMS30 for bent / pushed back pins, damage or corrosion. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.

B6: CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND

With EM015, EM010 and EM039 disconnected, measure the insulation resistance between EM015/003 and ground EM010/022.

Is the resistance> 10 M Ohms?

Yes
Reconnect EM010
Go to B7

No
Inspect harness / connectors EM015, EM039 for bent / pushed back pins, damage or corrosion. Repair as necessary and test the system for normal operation.

B7: END
Perform appropriate service drive cycle and check for the presence of DTC.

Has the fault code cleared?
