- Removing cylinder head cover Service and Repair
Crank engine at crankshaft with special tool 11 6 480 11 6 480 Connection Piece.
The cams on the inlet camshaft at the 1st cylinder point downwards.
Release screw (1).
Note:
Bolt (1) must be removed beforehand as it is no longer accessible in TDC position.
Sprocket wheel classification (0) value from 0 to 9
Tightening torque 11 31 1AZ. Mechanical Specifications
Undo plug in timing case cover at bottom.
Important!
No piston is permitted to be in the TDC position risk of damage.
Crank engine back at crankshaft through 45°.
Turn exhaust camshaft at hexagon head in direction of arrow.
The hydraulic chain tensioner can be secured in place in this position with special tool 11 3 340.
Note:
The hydraulic chain tension is forced back by rotating the exhaust and inlet camshafts.
Lock hydraulic chain tensioner with special tool 11 3 340.
Note:
If the sprocket wheel is removed without the hydraulic chain tensioner being locked, the chain tensioner piston will slip out and can then only be pressed back again with a considerable amount of effort.
Remove protective cap in direction of arrow.
Installation:
Reinstall protective cap with some grease.
Crank engine at crankshaft with special tool 11 6 480 11 6 480 Connection Piece.
Secure crankshaft at flywheel with special tool 11 6 080 11 6 080 Plug Mandrel.
Release sprocket wheel bolts (1).
Release bearing pins (2) of guide rails.
Installation:
Replace bearing pins (2).
Release sprocket wheel with chain (1) from inlet camshaft in direction of arrow.
Release guide rail (2) from mounting and pull out in direction of arrow.
Remove sprocket wheel (2) in direction of arrow to right from timing chain (3) and remove towards top.
Release screws (1) of camshaft bearing cap in 1/2 turn increments evenly from outside to inside.
Remove bearing caps and camshafts.
All bearing caps are marked.
Note:
Worn rockers may only be reused on the same grooves of the camshaft.
Important!
These screws must "not" be removed.
Note:
E - Inlet camshaft
A - Exhaust camshaft
Align camshafts so that cam tips of inlet and exhaust camshafts of 1st cylinder point in direction of travel to right.
Note:
See illustration.
Install camshaft.
Align marking (1) on inlet camshaft flush with cylinder head.
Marking (2) on exhaust camshaft flush with cylinder head.
Marking (1) on inlet camshaft must be between markings (2) on exhaust camshaft.
See illustration.
The inlet camshaft bearing covers are marked E 1 ... E 7 from the exhaust side.
The exhaust camshaft bearing covers are marked A 1 ... A 7 from the exhaust side.
Fit bearing caps.
Insert all screws (1) and initially tighten so that they are free of play.
Tighten down camshaft bearing caps in 1/2 turn increments evenly from inside to outside.
Screw special tool 11 6 254 onto cylinder head.
Note:
See illustration.
Check inlet camshaft axial clearance.
Set up special tool 11 6 250 with dial gauge.
Refer to Technical Data.
Adjust valve timing Adjustments.
