Camshaft: Adjustments




11 31 505 - Adjusting valve timing (M57T2)





Special tools required:
- 11 6 080 11 6 080 Plug Mandrel
- 11 6 321 11 6 320 Locking Plug
- 11 6 322 11 6 320 Locking Plug
- 11 6 480 11 6 480 Connection Piece






Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Removing cylinder head cover Service and Repair





The cams on the inlet camshaft at the 1st cylinder point downwards.

Release screw (1).

Note:
Bolt (1) must be removed beforehand as it is no longer accessible in TDC position.

Tightening torque 11 31 1AZ. Mechanical Specifications





Remove protective cap in direction of arrow.

Installation:
Reinstall protective cap with some grease.





Crank engine at crankshaft with special tool 11 6 480 11 6 480 Connection Piece.

Secure crankshaft at flywheel with special tool 11 6 080 11 6 080 Plug Mandrel.





Important!
Do not release screws (2).

Release sprocket wheel bolts (1).

Tightening torque 11 31 1AZ. Mechanical Specifications





Marking (1) on inlet camshaft must be flush with cylinder head.

Marking (2) on exhaust camshaft must be flush with cylinder head.

It is possible to effect turning at the hexagon head of the exhaust camshaft in order to adjust the gear wheels.

Marking (1) on inlet camshaft gear must be between markings (2) on exhaust camshaft gear.

Note:

Position special tool 11 6 321 11 6 320 Locking Plug on inlet camshaft and secure with special tool 11 6 322 11 6 320 Locking Plug.

Installation:
The exhaust camshaft only has to be checked, adjustment is not possible.





Secure sprocket wheel bolts (1).

Tightening torque 11 31 1AZ. Mechanical Specifications

Installation:
Crank engine at central bolt through 360°.

The third sprocket wheel bolt is now accessible.

Secure third sprocket wheel bolt.





Check timing.

Remove all special tools.

Assemble engine.
