Front Driveshaft







Front Driveshaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine-/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Transmission Support (T10337)

Approximately 600 mm pry lever (for example 652-24 Hazet)

Removing

- Shift selector level into "N" position.

- Remove the bolts and the rear noise insulation - 2 -.






- Set the (V.A.G 1383 A) using the (T10337) underneath the transfer case.






- Use the (V.A.G 1383 A) to raise the transfer case a little bit.

Risk of Accident.

Do not walk away from the (V.A.G 1383 A) during assembly and do not let it remain under the vehicle without someone in attendance.

- Remove bolts - 1, 2 - for the transmission support.






- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove transmission support.






Ignore - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - from the connection between the transfer case/front driveshaft.






- Do this using the counterhold tool Touareg V10 (T10172) and the adapters (T10172/6).

- Mark the installed position of the driveshaft in reference to the front final drive - arrow -.






Danger of damaging the driveshaft

The pry lever - A - has to be positioned on top of the push-on contact to press the driveshaft off of the front final drive.

The rubber boot will be damaged if the pry lever - 1 - is placed on it. If that happens, then the driveshaft must be replaced.








- Use the pry lever - A - to press the driveshaft off of the front final drive. Do this by placing the pry lever - A - on the push-on connector.

A locking ring secures the driveshaft to the pin. Give a hefty jerk to press it off.

- Remove the front driveshaft.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Front Driveshaft Overview ] Front Driveshaft Overview.

- Install the new O-ring - 1 - and the new locking ring - 2 -.






- Place the driveshaft on the front final drive.

The markings on the driveshaft and the final drive - arrow - line up with each other.






- Do not tilt the driveshaft, use a hefty jerk to install it on the pin. Use a suitable tool, for example a wooden mallet - A -, to drive the driveshaft onto the flange if you cannot install it by giving it a hefty yank. Test to make sure the driveshaft is firmly seated by pulling back on it.






- Use new bolts to tighten the driveshaft down on the transfer case - arrows -.






- Do this using the (T10172) and the adapters (T10172/6).

- Install the transmission support, refer to => [ Transmission Support and Bracket ] .
