Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair
ATF Cooler
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
Removing
- Remove the subframe crossbrace.
The suspension components could be damaged.
• Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
- Remove the clamps - 1 and 4 - and disconnect the ATF pipes.
• Place a clean cloth under the separating point to catch the escaping coolant.
- Loosen the clamps - 2 and 3 - and then seal off and remove the coolant hoses (3094).
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the ATF cooler.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ ATF Cooler and ATF Pipes Overview ] Description and Operation.
• Replace O-rings.
- Install the subframe crossbrace.
- Check the ATF level. Refer to => [ ATF, Checking Level and Correcting ] ATF, Checking Level and Correcting.
