Mechatronic Unit

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Assembly Pin (T40199)

Removing

Transmission installed.

General repair instructions, refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.

Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Always replace the Mechatronic unit if it is dirty or defective.

There is a risk of damaging the transmission.

Do not start the engine if there is no ATF in the transmission and if the Mechatronic is removed.

- Transmission in "P".

- Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

- Remove the ATF oil pan. Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the ATF filter. Refer to => [ ATF Filter ] Service and Repair.






There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with electrostatic discharge.

Always "discharge" the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist.

Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

- Disconnect the connector on transmission by rotating screw connections counter-clockwise - arrow -.

- Remove the bolt - 1 -.






- Turn the connector housing - 2 - counter-clockwise - arrow - and remove it.

- Remove the ATF oil pan. Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the ATF filter. Refer to => [ ATF Filter ] Service and Repair.

Transmission with a Hydraulic Pulse Memory - A -:






Risk of causing damage to the Mechatronic.

Only the bolts with a T40 Torx(R) bolt head may be loosened.

If other bolts are loosened, this may affect the function of the Mechatronic unit or it may come apart.

- Remove the hydraulic pulse memory - A -. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Pulse Memory with Accumulator Solenoid (N485) ] Service and Repair.

- Remove the bolts in the following sequence: - 21 to 1 -.

The bolts - 18, 19 and 20 - were already removed when the hydraulic pulse memory was removed.

Transmission without a Hydraulic Pulse Memory:






- Remove the bolts in the following sequence: - 19 to 1 -.

Risk of causing damage to the Mechatronic.

Only the bolts with a T40 Torx(R) bolt head may be loosened.

If other bolts are loosened, this may affect the function of the Mechatronic unit or it may come apart.

Continuation for All Transmissions:

- Remove the Mechatronic.

Danger of damaging the sensor on the back side of the Mechatronic.

Lay the Mechatronic with the bolt head side facing down only.

Installing

For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ ATF Pan, ATF Screen, Mechatronic and Hydraulic Pulse Memory with Accumulator Solenoid (N485) Overview ] Description and Operation.

Replace the Mechatronic O-rings and bolts.

- Install new O-rings - 1 and 3 - into the grooves in the oil pipes.






- Install the ATF pipe - 2 - into the Mechatronic.

- Check the oil pipes for damage and make sure they fit securely inside the Mechatronic.

- Remove the sealing sleeve using the (T10271) and install a new sleeve.






- Install the four (T40199) hand-tight, as illustrated.






The (T40199) prevent the Mechatronic from tilting when it is being installed. Also, the oil pipes on the back of the Mechatronic will not get damaged.






The spring clip on the back of the Mechatronic prevents the Mechatronic from being mounted flush on the transmission housing.

It is recommended to have a second technician help when installing the Mechatronic.

- Mount the Mechatronic on the transmission housing.






The claw - 2 - on the emergency release must fit behind the pin in the selector slider - 1 - - arrow -.

Transmission with a Hydraulic Pulse Memory - A -:






- Install the bolts - 1 through 4 - by hand until the bolt heads make contact.

- Remove the four (T40199).

- Tighten the bolts on the Mechatronic in the specified tightening sequence. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification and Sequence for Mechatronic with a Hydraulic Pulse Memory ] Description and Operation.

- Install the hydraulic pulse memory - A -. Refer to => [ Hydraulic Pulse Memory with Accumulator Solenoid (N485) ] Service and Repair.

Transmission without a Hydraulic Pulse Memory






- Install the bolts - 1 through 4 - by hand until the bolt heads make contact.

- Remove the four (T40199).

- Tighten the bolts on the Mechatronic in the specified tightening sequence. Refer to => [ Tightening Specification and Sequence for Mechatronic without a Hydraulic Pulse Memory ] Description and Operation.

Continuation for All Transmissions:

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with electrostatic discharge.

Always "discharge" the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist.

Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

- Make sure the connector locks and is secure.

- Install the ATF filter. Refer to => [ ATF Filter ] Service and Repair.

- Install the ATF pan. Refer to => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid Oil Pan ] Service and Repair.

- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ ATF, Checking Level and Correcting ] ATF, Checking Level and Correcting.
