Checking the Condensation Water Drain Hose
Checking the Condensation Water Drain Hose
The condensation water drain hoses - A, B - of the A/C system are clipped to the center tunnel on the left and right.
Procedure
- Remove the instrument panel cover on the driver side and the glove compartment.
- Carefully fold back the floor covering near the condensation water hose just far enough so that the condensation water drain hose is visible.
- The bracket - A - must be fully clipped into the body cut-out - D -.
- The condensation water drain - B - must be seated correctly on the bracket and be in contact with the body - C - with pretension.
• If the pretension is insufficient, seal the connecting area between the body and bracket with silicone adhesive sealant, for example. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
- Place the bracket with the condensation water drain hose correctly in the body cut-out. The condensation water drain hose must be checked for contamination.
- Remove the condensation water drain hose. Refer to => [ Condensation Water Drain Hose ] Service and Repair.
- Check the distance between the condensation water drain opening - 1 - and the heat shield - 3 -.
• There must be sufficient space (dimension - x -) so that the condensation water can drain out of the condensation water drain hose - 2 -.
- Check the condensation water drain of the A/C unit for contamination. Clean with a piece of wire if necessary.
• The diameter of the condensation water drain hose must not be constricted (pressed together).
For complaints of moisture in the passenger compartment, check the following components as well as the condensation water drain:
• Water drain for the plenum chamber, refer to => [ Checking and Cleaning Plenum Chamber Water Drain ] Testing and Inspection.
• Check the cowl panel trim and plenum chamber cover for damage and correct installation.
• Dust and pollen filter for soiling and correct installation. Refer to => [ Dust and Pollen Filter ] Service and Repair.
• Forced air extraction in the luggage compartment. Refer to => [ Passenger Compartment Forced Air Extraction, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.
• Actuation and function of the recirculation door (for example, in the "output diagnostic test mode") using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
Also, if there is a complaint about moisture in the passenger compartment that only occurs when the A/C compressor is switched on and under certain environmental conditions (check the output temperature of air from the evaporator). Refer to => [ Ice Formation on Evaporator, Localizing Malfunction ] Ice Formation on Evaporator, Localizing Malfunction and Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
• Read the measured value of the evaporator vent temperature sensor (G263).
- Check the temperature of the air at the evaporator under the use conditions described by the customer or in the case of the following setting on the control head:
Vehicles with Basic A/C system
- Setting on the Climatronic control module (J255).
• "Auto" mode, A/C compressor switched on (the indicator lamp in the buttons - 1, 6 - illuminates), knobs - 2, 5 - for temperature setting in the "cold" position.
• Intermediate fresh air blower speed at a voltage of approximately 7 volts on the fresh air blower (V2) , fresh air mode (the indicator lamp in the Umluft button - 8 - is off), instrument panel vents closed.
Vehicles with Comfort A/C system
- Setting on the Climatronic control module (J255).
• "Auto" mode, A/C compressor switched on (the indicator lamp in the buttons - 2, 4, 9 - illuminates), knobs - 1, 5 - for temperature setting in the "cold" position.
• Intermediate fresh air blower speed at a voltage of approximately 7 volts on the fresh air blower (V2) , fresh air mode (the indicator lamp in the Umluft button - 6 - is off), instrument panel vents closed.
For all vehicles
- If the measured value of the evaporator vent temperature sensor (G263) is too low (at an ambient temperature above 0° C, colder than 0° C for extended period of time) or too high (greater than, for example, 10° C (50° F) even though the A/C system is operating without problems), observe the instructions for testing cooling output=> [ A/C Unit, Checking Cooling Output ] A/C Unit, Checking Cooling Output and => [ Ice Formation on Evaporator, Localizing Malfunction ] Ice Formation on Evaporator, Localizing Malfunction.
- Install the instrument panel cover on the driver side and the glove compartment.
