Dryer Cartridge
Dryer Cartridge
• Different versions of the condenser and the dryer cartridge installed therein are available. Allocation, refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
Removal
- Drain the refrigerant circuit.
- In vehicles without a charge air cooler, remove the bumper cover end plate.
- Remove the charge air cooler.
• The refrigerant must be extracted from the refrigerant circuit before the screw plug is removed. If the screw plug is not removed within 10 minutes, pressure may form in the refrigerant circuit due to evaporation. Extract refrigerant once more.
• Only remove the sealing plug if the pressure in the refrigerant circuit is the same as or less than the ambient pressure.
- Check the pressure in the refrigerant circuit via the pressure gauge of an A/C system service station.
- Remove the screw plug - A -.
- Use needle-nose pliers to remove the dryer cartridge - D - from the fluid reservoir - E -.
Installation
Installation is done is reverse order, observe the following:
• Tightening specification, refer to => [ Refrigerant Lines, Condenser, Expansion Valve, A/C Compressor Overview ] Refrigerant Lines, Condenser, Expansion Valve, A/C Compressor Overview.
• After every opening of the fluid reservoir, the screw plug, O-ring seal, and dryer cartridge must be replaced. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
- Check the fluid reservoir at the condenser via the opening for contamination or damage to the thread surfaces and sealing surfaces.
• Keep the dryer cartridge sealed in its air-tight package as long as possible. Open the package just before installing the dryer cartridge into the condenser. The dryer cartridge absorbs moisture in a very short time and become unusable.
• Coat the O-ring seal of the screw plug with refrigerant oil prior to installation. Refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-rings ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Rings.
- Remove the dryer cartridge from the package and insert it in the fluid reservoir of the condenser.
- Install the screw plug - 1 - and screw in.
- Install the charge air cooler.
- In vehicles without a charge air cooler, install the bumper cover end plate.
- Evacuate and fill the refrigerant circuit.
- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit. Refer to => [ A/C System, Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] A/C System, Operating After Filling Refrigerant Circuit.
After completion of the repair work, perform the following work on the control head using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function:
- Query the event memory and erase any displayed entries.
