Evaporator Housing






Evaporator Housing

The evaporator is not available as a single part or should be replaced together with the evaporator housing for other reasons. Refer to => [ Evaporator, A/C Unit Installed ] Service and Repair and Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

Removal






- Remove the A/C unit. Refer to => [ A/C Unit ] A/C Unit.

- Remove the bolt - 4 -.

- Release the retaining tabs - arrows - and remove the bracket - 3 - for the coolant pipes.

- Remove the clamps - 5, 7 - by unscrewing the screws.

- If present, open the plastic clamps, refer to => [ Plastic clamps ] Service and Repair.

- Pull the coolant pipes - 1, 2 - out of the heater core - 6 - and remove.

- Remove the bolts - 2, 3 -.






- Release the retaining tabs - arrows - and remove the evaporator housing - 1 - at the air distributor housing - 4 -.

Installation






Installation is done is reverse order, observe the following:

Tightening specification, refer to => [ Air Distributor Housing, Evaporator Housing, Evaporator ] Overhaul.

- Check the connection - 3 - of the heater core and the coolant pipes - 2 - for damage or contamination.

- Clean and smooth the sealing surfaces for the O-ring seal.

- Lightly moisten the new O-ring seal - 4 - with coolant (or lubricate lightly with silicone grease) and place on the coolant pipe - 1 -.

- Push the coolant pipes into the heater core to the stop.

Leaks in the heater core.

Crushed O-ring seals or tilted or incompletely installed coolant pipes result in leaks.

- Install new screw clamps - B - on the coolant pipe/heater core connection.

- Tighten the screw with the tightening specification, refer to => [ Comfort Version - Add On Parts of the A/C Unit Overview ] Comfort Version - Add On Parts of the A/C Unit Overview.

- Check the screw clamps for proper seating on the connections of the heater core and the coolant pipes. They may not be in contact with the air distributor housing or other components.
