Bevel Box Drive Flange Seal

• Holding Fixture (VW 313)

• Tube 42 mm Dia. (VW 516)

• Thrust Piece (40 - 105)

• Thrust Piece (T10049)

• Transmission Holder (T10108)

• Stop Plate (T10108/1)

• Tapered Roller Bearing Puller (V.A.G 1582)

• Attachment (V.A.G 1582/6A)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1601)

• Kukko 20/10 two-arm puller

• Kukko 45-2 three arm puller

• Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)

• Additional Part for VW 771 (VW 771/37)

• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

• Grease, refer to the Parts Catalog

• 2 M10x30 bolts

• Four M12 x 10 nuts

Procedure

• The bevel box output flange seal can only be replaced with the bevel box removed.

- Remove the bevel box. Refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Service and Repair.

- Mount the bevel box on the hole marked with the number - 4 - - arrow - in the (T10108).






A Insert the M12 x 10 nut (quantity: 4), between bevel box and transmission holder.

- Then align bevel box to the remaining 3 holes and secure.

- Place the (V.A.G 1782) underneath.

- Drain oil from bevel box.

- Secure bevel box output flange with (T10108/1) by installing M10x30 bolts - arrows -.






- Remove the nut from the output flange.

A Socket attachment SW 36 for 3/4 inch drive

- Pivot bevel box so that output shaft faces upward.

- Remove output shaft from bevel box shaft bevel gear.






A Three-arm puller, for example, Kukko 45-2

• When removing output shaft, inner race/tapered roller bearing remains on output shaft and must be removed from it.

- Place the (40 - 105) on the output flange

- Remove inner race/tapered roller bearing from output flange with tapered roller bearing puller.






• You can also use attachment (V.A.G 1582/6) instead of (V.A.G 1582/6A).

- Remove output shaft seal - A -.






- Clean any locking fluid residue on the thread on the shaft bevel gear.

• Previous shim - 2 - for shaft beveled gear preload - 1 - must be installed.






- Place bearing inner race/tapered roller bearing - 3 - in bevel box outer race.

- Lightly apply oil to the outer diameter of the new seal - 4 - for the output flange.

- Drive in new shaft seal as far as stop using (T10049).






- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip half way with sealing grease; for the correct sealing grease, refer to the Parts Catalog.

- Pull in output flange with two arm puller - A -.






A Two-arm puller, for example, Kukko 20/10

- Position pulling hook on underside of drive pinion housing.

- Coat the threads on the nut with locking compound (D 000 600).

- Tighten new output flange hex nut, tightening specification - 1 - => [ Nut ] 02EA Transmission






A Socket attachment SW 36 for 3/4 inch drive

- Install the bevel box. Refer to => [ Bevel Box ] Service and Repair.

- Add gear oil to the bevel box. Refer to => [ Oil in Bevel Box, Draining or Filling after Repair ] Oil In Bevel Box, Draining or Filling After Repair.
