Oil in Bevel Box, Draining or Filling after Repair

Oil in bevel box need only be drained off for repair work. It must not be changed: filled for life!

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Protective goggles

Draining Oil

Move the vehicle onto a 4-column shop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.

Selector lever in P

The engine is off.

- Remove the noise insulation.






Depending on the version, different noise insulation may be installed.


Always keep a safe distance away from the radiator fan whenever working on the cooling system. Fan can switch on by itself - risk of injury!

- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.


Wear protective goggles.

Wear protective gloves.

- Remove the drain plug - A -.






- Drain the transmission fluid.

Filling Oil

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Oil Drain and Inspection Plug in Bevel Box Overview ] Oil Drain and Inspection Plug In Bevel Box Overview.

- Tighten the bolt - A -.

- Remove oil filler hole plug - B -.

- Fill up oil for bevel box up to the lower edge of the fill hole; part number, refer to the Parts Catalog

- Replace and tighten the oil filler plug - B -.
