Right Stub Shaft Seal, through Transmission Build Date 31 10 4, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Extractor Lever (T20143/2)

• Thrust Piece (T40007)

• Oil receptacle

• Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1)

• Grease for Clutch Disc Shaft Splines (G 000 100)

Procedure

• Transmission installed.

- Remove right front wheel.

- Remove the center noise insulation fasteners - 1 to 3 -.






- Remove right noise insulation fasteners - 1 to 3 -.






- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.






- Remove the right air duct pipe, by slightly lifting retaining clips - arrows -.

• To prevent damage, decoupling element of the front exhaust pipe must never be angled by more than 10°.






- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamp - arrows -.

- Push the clamping sleeve toward the rear.

- Remove bracket for exhaust system - arrows -.






- Unbolt the left and right coupling rods from the stabilizer bar - arrow -.






- Remove bolts - 1 to 3 - and remove pendulum support.






- Unbolt the right drive axle at the center bearing.






- Turn the steering completely to the right.

- Pivot the right drive axle forward and tie it up to the longitudinal member, as shown in the illustration.

- Unbolt intermediate shaft - B - from the mounting bracket - C - - arrows - and pull it off from the stub shaft of the transmission.






- Press off the dust cap - arrow - using a screwdriver.






- Remove the bolt - arrow - for the right stub shaft.






- Place oil receptacle underneath transmission.

- Pull out the stub shaft.

- Pull out seal for stub shaft using Extractor Lever (T20143/2).






Installing

- Lightly oil the outer circumference of the new seal.

- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip - arrow - halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).






- Drive in new seal to stop with Thrust Piece (T40007) , do not distort while doing this.






- Press stub shaft against transmission and fasten it. Tightening specification => [ (Item 12) Countersunk Bolt - 33 Nm ] Description and Operation.

The rest of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Grease the stub shaft splines with Grease (G 000 100).

- Install intermediate shaft and right drive axle.

- Install the stabilizer bar.

- When installing air duct pipes with connections, make sure that the securing clip - arrow - audibly engages into the retaining tab - A -.






- Install exhaust system and align it free of tension.

- Check gear oil level in manual transmission and fill => [ Manual Transmission, Checking Gear Oil Level ] Service and Repair.
