Right Flange Shaft Seal, from Transmission Build Date 01 11 4, Replacing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust Piece (3305)
• Extractor Lever (T20143/2)
• Oil receptacle
• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)
• Transmission installed.
- Remove the center noise insulation fasteners - 1 to 3 -.
- Remove right drive axle heat shield - arrows -.
- Remove right drive axle from transmission flanged shaft - A -.
- Secure the drive axles with bundling wire, making sure not to damage the protective surface coating.
- Remove bolt for flange shaft - arrow -, by screwing two bolts into the flange and counter-holding flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Place appropriate receptacle underneath transmission.
- Pull out flange shaft with spring.
- Pull out sealing ring for flange shaft using Extractor Lever (T20143/2).
Installing
- Lightly oil the outer circumference of the new seal.
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip - arrow - halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).
- Drive new seal in as far as the stop; be sure not to distort seal.
Secure and tighten the flange shaft and countersunk bolt - arrow -. Tightening specification => [ (Item 12) Countersunk Bolt - 33 Nm ] Description and Operation.
The rest of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Fasten the right drive axle to the flange shaft - A - of the transmission.
- Install the right drive axle heat shield.
- Check gear oil level in manual transmission and fill. Refer to => [ Manual Transmission, Checking Gear Oil Level ] Service and Repair.
