Housing with EGR Cooler
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Diameter (3094)
• Drip Tray (VAS 6208)
• Hose Clip Pliers (VAS 6340)
• Open-end wrench (commercially available)
Removing
- Remove the particulate filter. Refer to => [ Particulate Filter ] Particulate Filter.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 -, EGR temperature sensor (G98).
- Remove bolt - 1 -.
- Mark the exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 (G235) - 2 - installed position.
- Remove exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 - 2 - from the exhaust manifold with an open-end wrench.
- Remove the nut - 3 - and bolt - 1 - and then remove the control line.
- Remove bolts - 1 -.
- Remove the banjo bolt - 3 -. Then remove the turbocharger support and the oil return pipe.
- Clamp off the coolant hoses using the (3094) as illustrated.
Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.
When the engine is warm the cooling system is under pressure.
Reduce pressure by covering coolant reservoir cap with a cloth and carefully opening.
- Remove the coolant hoses from the EGR housing.
- Remove the bolts - 1 - and then remove the EGR pipe.
- Disconnect electrical connector - arrow -.
- Remove the bolts - 2 - through - 5 -. Then remove the housing and the EGR cooler.
- Remove the EGR cooler from the housing.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ EGR with EGR Cooling System Assembly Overview ] EGR With EGR Cooling System Assembly Overview.
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
• Replace the seals, O-rings and self-locking nuts.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model. Refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA.
• During installation, the heat shield boot must be installed at the same location.
- Install the turbocharger support. Refer to => [ Turbocharger Assembly Overview ] Turbocharger Assembly Overview.
- Install air filter housing.
- Install the particulate filter. Refer to => [ Particulate Filter ] Particulate Filter.
- Check coolant level => [ Check coolant level. ] Procedures.
