Engine Carrier
Removing
- Remove the left and right engine bracket. Refer to => [ Engine Mount ] Engine Mount.
- Remove the 2 bolts and then remove the steering gear heat shield - A -.
Risk of distorting airbag spiral spring.
• Separate universal joint from steering gear only when front wheels are in straight ahead position.
• Secure steering wheel with adhesive tape to prevent position of steering wheel and steering gear from changing.
- Remove the universal joint bolt - B -.
- Remove universal joint from steering gear.
- Remove the nut - 1 - on the right longitudinal member and disconnect the Ground (GND) wire form the threaded pin.
- Remove the left and right coupling rod nuts - arrow - on the stabilizer bar.
Vehicles Built through 05.10
- Remove the bolt - arrow - and move the fuel cooler pump (V166) to the side.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Lift the clips - 1 -, loosen the hose clamps - 3 - and - 4 - and remove the air duct hoses.
- Remove the air duct pipe.
• Ignore - 2 -.
Vehicles Built from 06.10
- Remove the cover - 2 -.
- Remove the bolt - 3 - and the balance weight - 1 -.
All Vehicles
- Mark location of subframe and engine carrier to longitudinal members with a felt-tip pen.
The subframe could cause an accident if it is not secured.
• The subframe bolts - 2 - and the transmission carrier bolts - 1 - must never be loosened.
- Remove the bolts - 3 - and - 4 - then lower the subframe with the front engine carrier.
- Remove engine carrier forward.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Subframe Overview ] Subframe Overview, => [ Ground Connection on the right Longitudinal Member ] Engine, Installing.
• The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model, refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Install the engine carrier.
- Install the air guide pipe. Refer to => [ Air Duct Pipes and Air Duct Hoses Overview, Vehicles Built through 05.10 ] Air Duct Pipes and Air Duct Hoses Overview, Vehicles Built Through 05.10.
- Install subframe.
- Tighten the fuel cooler pump (V166) to the longitudinal member. Refer to => [ Vehicles Built through 05.10 , Tightening Specifications ] Service and Repair.
- Install universal joint on steering gear.
- Install engine bracket. Refer to => [ Engine Mount ] Engine Mount.
