Removal and Replacement






Selector Lever Cable

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80 - 200)

Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Socket and Key (T40031)

Removing

- Press the button the parking brake to lock the electro-mechanical brake.

- Move the selector lever into D.

- Pry out the selector lever boot using the (3409) or a small screwdriver - arrows - and then fold it upward.





- Insert the (T40031) through the opening - arrow - in the selector mechanism and loosen the bolt on the selector lever cable one turn.





Only loosen the clamping screw - do not remove it.

The clamping screw is only accessible when the selector lever is in D.

The selector lever must remain in D when the clamping screw is loose.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the driveshaft heat shield - 1 - (if equipped).





- Remove the ball socket - 1 - on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the (80 - 200).





- Remove the clip - 2 - and remove the selector lever cable from the transmission.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

- Remove the heat shield - 1 - (if equipped) under the selector mechanism function unit.





- Remove the 4 lock washers - 1 -, if equipped.





Replace the lock washers.

- If equipped, remove the noise insulation - 2 -, slide it forward and remove it from the selector lever cable.

- Remove the circlip - 1 - from the selector lever cable.





- Remove the selector lever cable - 2 - from the selector mechanism.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Overview ] Description and Operation.

Replace the O-ring on the selector lever cable.

Lubricate the cable eye and the ball socket on the selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2) before installing.

- If equipped, slide the noise insulation - 2 - over the opening on the selector lever cable - 3 -.





- Install the O-ring - 1 - on the selector lever cable.





- Install the selector lever cable - 2 - into the selector shift mechanism function unit - arrow -.

- Secure the selector lever cable - 2 - with the circlip - 3 -.

Installed position: The angled end of the circlip - 1 - faces the selector mechanism.





- Install the noise insulation - 2 - (if equipped) with 4 new lock washers - 1 -.





- Push the selector lever - 1 - on the transmission all the way to the back - arrow - until the parking lock locks into place.





When parking lock is engaged, it must not be possible to turn both front wheels in one direction at the same time.

- Push the selector lever into D.

- Make sure the selector lever inside the vehicle is also in D.

- Carefully press the selector lever cable ball socket - 1 - in this position onto the selector shaft lever.





Do not bend selector shaft lever when pressing on, otherwise shift mechanism can no longer be adjusted exactly.

- Attach the selector lever cable with clips - 2 -.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

- Check the selector lever cable and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Selector Lever cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
