Selector Lever Cable, Bringing into Basic Setting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis Tester, for example, Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B)
• Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80 - 200)
• Trim Removal Wedge (3409)
• Socket and Key (T40031)
Procedure
• Guided fault finding with the vehicle diagnosis tester is completed; all faults have been corrected.
- Press the button for the parking brake to lock the electro-mechanical brake.
- Select the following menu entries on the vehicle diagnosis tester in Guided Functions:
• 02-Transmission Electronics 0BK I J217
• 02-Read Measured Values
- Select the measured value Transmission Position on the vehicle diagnosis tester from the list.
- Compare the following displays:
• Measured value Transmission Position on the vehicle diagnosis tester
• Selector lever position
• Selector lever transmission range position display unit (Y26) on the shift mechanism
• Transmission range display (Y6) in the instrument cluster
Conditions:
• The displays must match
If the displays do not match:
- Adjusts the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
If the individual displays cannot be reached by adjusting the selector lever cable:
Selector Lever Cable, Bringing into Basic Setting:
• Tightening specification, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Overview ] Description and Operation.
- Remove the ball socket - 1 - on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the (80 - 200).
• Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
- Push the selector lever - 1 - on the transmission all the way to the back - arrow - until the parking lock locks into place.
• When parking lock is engaged, it must not be possible to turn both front wheels in one direction at the same time.
- Push the selector lever into D.
- Move the selector lever into D.
- Pry out the selector lever boot using the (3409) or a small screwdriver - arrows - and then fold it upward.
- Insert the (T40031) through the opening - arrow - in the selector mechanism and loosen the bolt on the selector lever cable one turn.
• Loosen the clamping screw approximately one turn but do not remove it.
• The clamping screw is only accessible when the selector lever is in D.
• The selector lever must remain in D when the clamping screw is loose.
- Insert the (T40031) in the bolt.
- Carefully move selector lever lightly toward the front and rear without shifting into another selector lever position, this releases the tension on the selector lever cable.
- Select the following menu entries on the vehicle diagnosis tester in Guided Functions:
• 02-Transmission Electronics 0BK I J217
• 02-Read Measured Values
- Select the measured value Transmission Position on the vehicle diagnosis tester from the list.
- Compare the following displays:
• Measured value Transmission Position on the vehicle diagnosis tester
• Selector lever position
• Selector lever transmission range position display unit (Y26) on the shift mechanism
• Transmission range display (Y6) in the instrument cluster
Conditions:
• The displays must match
- Carefully press the selector lever cable ball socket - 1 - in this position onto the selector shaft lever.
• Do not bend selector shaft lever when pressing on, otherwise shift mechanism can no longer be adjusted exactly.
• Ignore - 2 -.
- Move the selector lever into the tiptronic gate.
- Tighten the clamping screw in this position with the (T40031) without touching the selector lever.
