Radiator and Fan Shroud






Radiator and Fan Shroud

The radiator and the fan shroud are removed and installed together.

The fan shroud can also be removed alone. Refer to => [ Fan Shroud ] Fan Shroud.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drip Tray (VAS 6208)

Removing

If there are small impressions on the fins. Refer to => [ Coolers, Condensers and Charge Air Coolers, Installing ] Coolers, Condensers and Charge Air Coolers, Installing.

- Remove the noise insulation - 1 - and - 2 -.






- Remove the front bumper cover and the bumper. Refer to Description and Operation.

- Remove the charge air cooler. Refer to => [ Charge Air Cooler ] Charge Air Cooler.

- Place the (VAS 6208) under the engine.

- Remove the drain plug - 1 - and drain the coolant.






- Remove the coolant hose - 2 - from the radiator by raising the retaining clip.


Risk of injury from coolant fan starting by itself.

Before working in fan shroud area, disconnect electrical connectors.

- Disconnect the coolant fan electrical connector - 1 - by sliding the retainer back - arrow - and pressing the release down.






- Remove bolts - arrows -.






- Remove the air duct - 1 - and intermediate flange - 2 -.

- Remove the connections - 1 - and - 2 - from the radiator by removing the retaining clip.






- Open the latches - arrows - and remove the upper air duct - 1 -.






- Release the retaining tabs - arrows A - and remove the left and right air ducts - 1 - upward - arrow B -.






- Release the clamps - arrow A - and tilt the power steering coolant hose - 1 - forward - arrow B -.






- Pull the power steering coolant hose upward off the condenser and lay it on the engine.

- Release the left and right radiator retaining pins and remove by pulling upward - arrows -.






- Remove the left and right bolts - 1 - and remove the radiator bracket with the radiator from the lock carrier - arrow -.






- Lower the radiator slightly.

- Have a second technician release the retaining clamps - 1 - in the direction of - arrow A - and remove the condenser - 2 - upward out of the mounts on the radiator - arrows B -.







There is a risk of damaging the condenser and refrigerant lines and hoses.

Do not stretch, kink or bend coolant lines and hoses.

- Tip the condenser with the lines connected forward.

- Remove the radiator.

- Press the fan shroud left and right locking tabs - arrow - at the same time and remove the fan shroud upward from the radiator.






Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Radiator and Coolant Fan Overview ] Radiator and Coolant Fan Overview.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Install the air duct on the air filter housing intermediate flange.

- Install the charge air cooler. Refer to => [ Charge Air Cooler ] Charge Air Cooler.

- Install the bumper and front bumper cover. Refer to Description and Operation.

- Install ATF lines.

- Fill with coolant. Refer to => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Service and Repair.

- Check the ATF level.

All of the coolant must be changed if the radiator was replaced.
