Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Front-End Hook (3370)
• Seat Repair Stand (VAS6136)
• The work description is based on a manual or power standard front seat and comfort seat.
Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.
• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove the front seat:
• Manual standard seat, refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.
• Power standard seat and Comfort seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.
- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Front Seat, Installing on Seat Repair Stand ] Overhaul.
- Remove the front seat backrest. Refer to => [ Front Seat Backrest ] Front Seat Backrest.
- Remove the sill side trim retaining bracket.
• Manual standard seat, refer to => [ Retaining Bracket Trim, Sill Side ] Retaining Bracket Trim, Sill Side.
• Power standard seat and Comfort seat, refer to => [ Sill Side Retaining Bracket Trim ] Sill Side Retaining Bracket Trim.
- Vehicles with drawer: remove the drawer. Refer to => [ Drawer Mount ] Drawer Mount.
- Equipment level with storage compartment: remove the storage compartment. Refer to => [ Storage Compartment ] Storage Compartment.
- Versions with LATCH (passenger seat only), remove the LATCH. Refer to => [ Anchorage, Front Seat ] Anchorage, Front Seat.
- Vehicles with seat occupied recognition passenger airbag deactivation, remove the seat occupied recognition. Refer to => [ Passenger Occupant Detection System ] Passenger Occupant Detection System.
- Disengage the cover clamping strip - 1 - using the (3370) on the front and on the sides - arrow -.
- Disengage the retaining strip- 2 - on the cover at the back using the (3370).
- Remove the cover with upholstery from the seat pan.
- Vehicles with passenger occupant detection system: remove the cover, the cushion and the seat occupied recognition mat, and the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor (G452) and the seat occupied recognition control module (J706).
Installation
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.
• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
- Make sure the retaining strips engage correctly and the cover is not wrinkled.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
• If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.
