Selector Shaft Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror (80-200)
• Thrust piece (T10135)
Procedure
• General repair notes. Refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.
• Rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Remove left transmission support. Refer to => [ Left and Right Transmission Mount and Transmission Support ] Service and Repair.
- Press ball socket - 1 - of the selector lever cable off from the selector shaft lever using the pry lever ( 80-200).
• Take care not to bend or kink selector lever cable.
• Disregard - 2 -.
- Drive out the roll pin - 1 - at selector shaft lever - 2 - in direction indicated - arrow - until selector shaft lever can be pulled off selector shaft.
- Pierce shaft seal with a small screwdriver and pull out.
- Lubricate outer circumference and space between sealing ring sealing lips with ATF.
- Press new shaft seal onto selector shaft.
• Installation position: The open side of the seal faces the transmission.
- Press on new shaft seal as far as stop using Thrust Piece (T10135) and assembly lever - A -, ensuring shaft seal does not distort.
• To prevent assembly lever from slipping when pressing in seal, place a slip-resistant base (e.g. piece of rubber) between assembly lever and subframe - arrow -.
- Drive spring pin back onto removed selector shaft lever in opposite direction to lever.
- Slide selector shaft lever onto shaft and drive in spring pin.
- Carefully press selector lever cable - 1 - onto selector shaft lever - 3 -.
• Do not bend selector shaft lever when pressing off, otherwise selector mechanism can no longer be adjusted correctly.
• Disregard - 2 -.
