Selector Shaft Sealing Ring, With Transmission Installed






Selector Shaft Sealing Ring, with Transmission Installed

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Sleeve (VW 423)

Extractor Lever (T20143/1)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Assembly Sleeve (01E 311 120)

Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- If equipped, loosen quick-release connectors - 3 - and remove rear noise insulation - B -.





Vehicles with 6-cylinder gasoline engine:

- Remove left drive axle heat shield.

- Disconnect the exhaust system at the left clamping sleeve - left arrow -.





- Remove left front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter.

All Vehicles

- Remove the nut - arrow - and remove the selector shaft lever from the selector shaft.





- Carefully pry off sealing ring without damaging shaft.





Installing

- To prevent damage to the seal - C -, the installation of the seal and selector shaft must only be performed with the Assembly Sleeve (01E 311 120) - A -.





- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Lightly oil outer circumference of seal.

- Install the sealing ring - arrow - into the housing up to the stop.





The rest of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, note the following:

Vehicles with 6-cylinder gasoline engine:

- Reconnect exhaust system and ensure it is not under stress.

- Install the left drive axle heat shield.

All Vehicles

- Check gear oil level in manual transmission. Refer to => [ Manual Transmission, Checking Gear Oil Level ] 02XA Transmission.
