09EA Transmission






Mechatronic Unit

Always replace the Mechatronic unit if it is dirty or faulty.

Automatic transmission clean working conditions, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Removing

- Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

- Remove the ATF pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Oil Pan.

- Remove the oil screen. Refer to => [ Oil Screen ] Oil Screen.


There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

Always discharge static by touching a grounded object, for example, vehicle ground, before touching or removing the Mechatronic unit.

Never touch contacts in 16-pin connector, as the static charge could destroy the control module and thus the Mechatronic unit.

- Touch the vehicle ground with a bare hand to discharge the static electricity.

- Rotate electrical connection - arrow - counter-clockwise and remove.





- Disconnect the clip for the wiring harness connector - A -.





Ignore - arrows -.

- Remove Mechatronic bolts in reverse order, for example first bolt - 11 -, then - 10 -, through - 1 -.





Only the indicated bolts - 1 through 11 - may be loosened.

If other bolts are loosened, this may affect the function of the Mechatronic unit or it may come apart.

- Remove the Mechatronic together with the wiring harness from the transmission.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Oil Pan, Oil Strainer and Mechatronic Overview ] Oil Pan, Oil Strainer and Mechatronic Overview

- Make sure the seal - B - is installed correctly and is secure.





- Replace wiring harness connector O-rings and lightly coat with ATF.

- Attach the wiring harness - A - to the Mechatronic - B -. At the same time, insert the tab - arrow - on the back of the wiring harness into the Mechatronic unit.





If the tab on the backside of the wiring harness breaks off, the wiring harness must be replaced. Refer to => [ Wiring Harness in Transmission ] Wiring Harness In Transmission.

- Insert the wiring harness connector into the transmission housing.

Installed position: The flat section on the rear collar faces down and the tabs on the collar are horizontal.

- Set Mechatronic unit in place without using force, and at the same time insert stud on the selector lever - arrow - into the groove on the selector slide - A -; if necessary, move selector slide back or forth.





- Tighten the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - on the Mechatronic to 2 Nm.





- Tighten the bolts on the Mechatronic to the tightening specification and in the given sequence, that is, first bolt - 1 -, then - 2 - through - 11 -.

- Install the clip - A - on the wiring harness connector - B -.





Ignore - arrows -.

- Install the oil screen. Refer to => [ Oil Screen ] Oil Screen.

- Install the oil pan. Refer to => [ Oil Pan ] Oil Pan.

- Disconnect the connector on the left side of the transmission and turn it clockwise opposite the - direction of arrow -.





- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ ATF, Draining or Filling after Repair ] ATF, Draining or Filling After Repair.

If the Mechatronic was replaced:

- Perform a transmission adaptation. Refer to => [ Transmission Adaptation, MY 06 ] Transmission Adaptation, MY 06.
