Handling
Handling non-deployed SRS-components
Non-deployed pyrotechnical SRS components must not be deployed/ignited inside the vehicle. See Discarding pyrotechnic components Discarding Pyrotechnic Components.
Warning! Destroying non-deployed pyrotechnical SRS components.
The SRS component is to be removed as specified in the instructions below.
Remove:
- the air bag on the driver's side. Refer to: Driver's airbag Driver's Airbag
- the air bag on the passenger side. Refer to: Airbag, passenger side Airbag, Passenger Side
- the airbags (SIPS) in the seats. Refer to: Air bag, front seat Air Bag, Front Seat
- the side air curtains (IC). Refer to: Inflatable curtain Inflatable Curtain
- the front safety belt tensioners. Refer to: Front safety belt retractor Front Safety Belt Retractor
- the rear safety belt tensioners. Refer to: Seat belt retractor, rear Seat Belt Retractor, Rear
- the supplemental restraint system module. Refer to: Air bag supplemental restraint system Service and Repair

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed pyrotechnical SRS component. There is a risk of deployment.
Warning! A pyrotechnical SRS component must never be unscrewed, repaired or moved to another vehicle.
Storage and transport
Storing and transporting non-deployed SRS components
During temporary storage of the driver's airbag (SRS), it is to be placed with the metal side (rear side) down on a well protected surface so that the surface material is not damaged.
Note! For longer storage periods (unattended storage) the driver and passenger air bags (SRS), side air curtains (IC), seat air bag modules (SIPS), seat belt tensioners and other SRS units must be stored at a dedicated site in the original packaging.
Warning! In the event of a fire at the storage site, the fire authorities must be informed about the presence of pyrotechnical SRS components according to the relevant national statutory requirements.
Note! Loose side air curtains are always to be stored in IC brackets or other approved packaging.
Note! Driver and passenger air bags (SRS), side air curtains (IC), seat air bag modules (SIPS), seat belt tensioners and other SRS units must not be exposed to temperatures above 110°C.
During transport, driver and passenger air bags (SRS), side air curtains (IC), seat air bag modules (SIPS) and other pyrotechnical SRS units must be handled in accordance with the national regulations for each country.
