Fault-Tracing Information

Fault-tracing

Checking the wiring and terminals

Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected non-deployed seat belt tensioner. This could deploy the seat belt tensioner!

- Ignition off, wait for 15 seconds.
- Disconnect the connector for Supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
- Disconnect the connector from the front passenger seat belt tensioner.

Hint: Check if other diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), that indicate another activatable collision protection system, are stored.
The fault is due to a short-circuit to another circuit in the activatable collision protection system.

Check connectors for damage to pins and connections.
Also check other connectors and terminals that connect the wiring between the Supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the seat belt tensioner.

Note! The connector to the activatable collision protection system in the other circuit must be disconnected before a reading is taken.

Check the cable. Check for a short-circuit to another circuit with activatable collision protection system. The resistance reading should read infinite resistance.
Take readings between:
- The connector to the front passenger seat belt tensioner terminal #1 and the connector to the other activatable collision protection system terminals #1 and #2.
- The connector to the front passenger seat belt tensioner terminal #2 and the connector to the other activatable collision protection system terminals #1 and #2.
Remedy as necessary.

Powering the SRS system

Warning! Nobody should be in the passenger compartment when the SRS (supplemental restraint system) is first powered after fault-tracing/repair.

Caution! Ignition off during the entire procedure.

- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- If the battery negative lead has been removed: Connect the battery negative lead.
When powering up the SRS-system, other systems and components in the vehicle will also be activated.
Power the SRS (supplemental restraint system) by clicking the VCT2000 symbol.
Performing the service may take up to 15 seconds.
