Lateral Stabilizer Rod: Service and Repair






Bushing front lateral link

Special tools:
999 7048 Yoke assembly 999 7048 Yoke Assembly
999 7054 Adapter incl. 2x MC6C M6X12 999 7054 Adapter Incl. 2X MC6C M6X12
999 7032 Sleeve 999 7032 Sleeve
999 7143 Drift 999 7143 Drift
999 7144 Socket 999 7144 Socket

Preparatory work

Remove the wheels.

Removal

Removing the air baffle





Remove:
- the plastic nuts x 2 (1)
- the screw x 1 (2)
- the air baffle.

Note! The illustration displays the left-hand side. When replacing the lateral link on the right-hand side, the same procedure applies with the right-hand air baffle.

Removing the shock absorber





Remove:
- the screw
- the shock absorber from the lateral link.

Removing the upper control arm and tie rod




Remove the 2 screws.

Removing the clips for the brake cable





Remove:
- the screw
- the 1 clip.

Removing the cable harness for the wheel sensors





Remove:
- the 3 clips
- the cable harness from the lateral link.

Removing the lateral link





Remove:
- the 2 x screws
- the lateral link.

Hint: Note on which side of the lateral link the cable and cable harness must be positioned.

Removing bushing




Pull down the lateral link and apply the press tool.
Install the hydraulic cylinder as illustrated.
Use: 999 7054 Adapter incl. 2x MC6C M6X12 999 7054 Adapter Incl. 2X MC6C M6X12 with: 999 7048 Yoke assembly 999 7048 Yoke Assembly , socket: 999 7032 Sleeve 999 7032 Sleeve and drift: 999 7143 Drift 999 7143 Drift.

Note! Measure and note the position of the bushing before removal.

Pull the bushing out.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the bushing




Press the bushing into place as illustrated so that the mounting plate is in line with the arrow on the control arm.




Install: 999 7143 Drift 999 7143 Drift as illustrated so that the mark is opposite the arrow.




Install the hydraulic cylinder as illustrated.
Use: 999 7054 Adapter incl. 2x MC6C M6X12 999 7054 Adapter Incl. 2X MC6C M6X12 with: 999 7048 Yoke assembly 999 7048 Yoke Assembly , socket: 999 7144 Socket 999 7144 Socket and drift: 999 7143 Drift 999 7143 Drift.




Pull the bushing through the control arm.

Caution! Do not tighten to more than the measured bushing position.

Installing the lateral link





Install:
- the lateral link
- the 2 screws. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications

Installing the cable harness for the wheel sensors




Install the 3 clips.

Installing the clips for the brake cable





Install:
- the 1 clip
- the screw.

Installing the upper control arm and the tie rod




Install the 2 screws. Do not tighten yet.

Note! The rear suspension must be in the normal position when tightening all the joints in the rear suspension where rubber bushings are involved.

See: Normal position Stay, Arm, Joint.
Tighten the screws according to Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the shock absorber





Install:
- the shock absorber in the lateral link
- the screw. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications

Installing the air baffle





Install:
- the air baffle
- the 2 screws (1)
- the plastic nut (2).

Note! The illustration displays the left-hand side. When replacing the lateral link on the right-hand side, the same procedure applies with the right-hand air baffle.

Finishing


Install:
- the rear wheel hub. See: Rear wheel hub, M66, AW55-50/51SN Rear Wheel Hub, Replacing
- the spring. See: Spring, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN, B5254T7, M66 Spring, Rear.
Check/adjust the wheel alignment. See: Wheel angles, check Service and Repair.
Install the link arm according to: Rear lower arm Rear Lower Arm.
Install the wheels. See: Wheels Service and Repair.
