Rear Subframe: Service and Repair






Rear subframe

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and/or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work

Remove the rear springs on both sides. See: Spring, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN, B5254T7, M66 Spring, Rear.
Remove the rear anti-roll bar.

Removal

Removing the brake caliper





Remove the following on both sides:
- the 2 screws
- the brake caliper.
Remove the brake hose from its bracket. Hang the brake caliper in a suitable way.

Removing the shock absorber





Remove on both sides:
- 1 screw
- the shock absorber from the lateral link.

Removing the air baffle





Remove on both sides:
- the plastic nuts x 2 (1)
- the screw x 1 (2)
- the air baffle.

Note! The illustration displays the left-hand side. When removing on the right-hand side, the same procedure applies with the right-hand air baffle.

Removing the lateral link





Remove on both sides:
- the 2 screws (1)
- the connector (2).

Removing the clips for the brake cable





Remove:
- 1 screw
- the 1 clip.

Removing the carbon filter container
Remove the carbon filter container. See: Charcoal filter, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN, B5254T7, M66 Service and Repair.

Removing the exhaust mounting




Remove the rubber mounting.

Removing the sub-frame




Use a lift with lifting table and guide pins. Apply the lifting table against the sub-frame.

Note! Ensure that the lifting table is centered under the subframe for optimal weight distribution. Check that the lifting table is correctly applied against the subframe.

Remove the 3 screws on both sides.
Carefully lower the subframe approx. 100 mm.
Install a tensioning strap around the subframe and lifting device to make sure that the subframe does not fall off.
Lower the sub-frame.

Caution! Ensure that no cables / hoses are trapped when lowering the subframe.

Transferring components





Remove on both sides:
- screw, 1 pc. (1)
- screw, 1 pc. (2).





Remove on both sides:
- 1 screw
- longitudinal stay with link arms and track rod.
Remove the old subframe and install the new one on the lifting table.
The new subframe's parts.

Install:
- longitudinal stay with link arms and track rod
- the screw.
Do not tighten yet.





Install:
- screw 1 pc. (1)
- screw, 1 pc. (2).
Do not tighten yet.

installation

Note! For tightening torques, see: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the sub-frame




Carefully lift the sub-frame.

Note! Ensure that no cables / hoses are trapped when installing the subframe.

Install the screws, 3 pcs., on both sides. Tighten according to: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.
Remove the lifting table.

Installing the exhaust mounting




Install the rubber mounting.

Installing the carbon filter container
Install the carbon filter container. See: Charcoal filter, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN, B5254T7, M66 Service and Repair.

Installing the clips for the brake cable





Install:
- the 1 clip
- 1 screw

Installing the lateral link





Install on both sides:
- the 2 screws (1). Tighten according to Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications
- the connector (2)

Tightening the upper link arm and track rod
Install a transmission jack under the lateral link. Press up the lateral link to the normal position. For the correct value in the normal position, see: Normal position Stay, Arm, Joint.

Tighten:
- - screw, 1 pc., for the upper link arm. Tighten according to: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications
- screw, 1 pc., for the track rod. Tighten according to: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications.

Installing the air baffle





Install on both sides:
- the air baffle
- the plastic nuts x 2 (1)
- the screw, x 1 (2).

Note! The illustration displays the left-hand side. When installing on the right-hand side, the same procedure applies with the right-hand air baffle.

Installing the shock absorber





Install on both sides:
- the shock absorber
- the screw. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications
- the brake hose in its bracket.

Installing the brake caliper





Install on both sides:
- the brake caliper
- the 2 screws. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications
Install the brake hose in its console.

Finishing

Install the anti-roll bar.

Install on both sides:
- springs according to: Spring, B5254T7, AW55-50/51SN, B5254T7, M66 Spring, Rear
- wheels rear according to: Wheels Service and Repair.
Carry out wheel alignment in accordance with: Wheel angles, check Service and Repair.
Tighten the screw for the lower control arm. Tighten. See: Tightening torque [1][2]Specifications
