Faulty signal
Checking the start inhibitor status
- Ignition on
- Depress the brake pedal
- Read off the status of the start inhibitor.
Move the gear selector between the positions P, R, N and D.
In positions P and N the status should be "Start permitted". In other positions the status should be "Start not permitted".
The fault is permanent if the function is faulty.
If the function is correct, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but is not active at the moment, i.e. an intermittent fault.

- Ignition off.
Check the cable between transmission control module (TCM) terminal #A5 (#A35) and engine control module (ECM) terminal #B15. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Remedy as necessary.

- Ignition on
- Read off the status of the start inhibitor.
