Connecting the breakout box

- Ignition off. Wait until the gear selector indicator or light goes out (normally takes approximately 7 seconds). If the gear selector indicator or light does not light up from the beginning due to a fault, wait for 3 minutes from when the ignition is switched off
- Expose the transmission control module (TCM). See: Transmission control module (TCM) Service and Repair

Note! When taking readings at connectors A and B (not on the actual transmission), the transmission control module (TCM) does not need to be disconnected from the transmission. If the control module is not disconnected, calibration does not need to be carried out.

- Remove the connectors from the transmission control module (TCM)
- Check in particular that the male and female terminals on the control module, the control module connectors and on the transmission are intact, secure and cannot be pressed in. Check that the female terminal cables are securely connected
- In particular, check the terminal pins relevant to the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) / symptom. See also: Signal specification, AW55-50/51SN Signal Specification, Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Connect the adapter 951 2904 TCM adapter 951 2904 TCM Adapter to the connectors on the transmission control module (TCM) or transmission. Connect the breakout box 951 1428 Breakout box 951 1428 Breakout Box to the adapter
- The breakout box is designed to facilitate reading off the control module input and output signals when the control module is connected; and the resistance of the cable and component when the control module is disconnected. The use of a breakout box reduces the risk of accidental short-circuited cables and damage to the connector pins.

Caution! When taking readings with the ignition on, first connect the engine control module (ECM) and its connectors, then switch on the ignition. After taking readings, check diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for systems connected to the high speed section.
