Checking the component
Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, pyrotechnical airbag. This could deploy the airbag!
Caution! Do not touch the terminal pins in the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). There is a risk of static discharge. This could damage the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
- Check cables and terminals if the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is intermittent. Remedy as necessary and select alternative 1 at the bottom
- If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is permanent, continue fault-tracing
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the connector from the front left side impact airbag
- Connect a special tool to the connector (to the ignition cable). To carry out this procedure, use: 951 1506 Test dummy 951 1506 Test Dummy
Note! The special tool must be checked and fault-free. If the special tool is faulty, the diagnostic readings will be incorrect. This will make fault-tracing harder.
- Switch on the ignition. Wait 10 seconds.
Read diagnostic trouble codes by clicking the VCT2000 symbol.
If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) changes status from a permanent to an intermittent fault, replace the front left side impact airbag and select alternative 1 at the bottom.
If the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is still permanent, select alternative 2 at the bottom.

Checking the component and wiring
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the special tool from the connector
- Disconnect the 20-pin connector located under the left front seat
- Disconnect the connectors from the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
Check the 20-pin connector and the connectors to the seat belt tensioner and the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). Check for damage to pins and terminals in the connectors.
Remedy as necessary.
Connect the 20-pin connector. Check the SRS ignition cables between the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and the side impact airbag connector. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.
Check the cable between:
- Terminal #A33 on the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and terminal #1 on the front left side impact airbag connector
- Terminal #A34 on the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) and terminal #2 on the front left side impact airbag connector.
Remedy as necessary.
