Short-Circuit to Adjacent SRS Ignition Cable
Short-circuit to adjacent SRS ignition cable
Checking the component
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the connector from driver's airbag stage 2
- Disconnect the connectors from the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed, pyrotechnical airbag. This could deploy the airbag!
Caution! Do not touch the terminal pins in the supplemental restraint system module (SRS). There is a risk of static discharge. This could damage the supplemental restraint system module (SRS).
Check the SRS ignition cable. Check for a short-circuit to the ignition cable for another collision protection system/ignition stage. With the ignition off and with the relevant ignition cable connector and ignition cable for the adjacent collision protection system/ignition stage disconnected, the resistance reading must display infinite resistance.
Take readings between:
- Terminal #1 for the relevant ignition cable connector and terminal #1 for the ignition cable connector for the adjacent collision protection system/ignition stage
- Terminal #1 for the relevant ignition cable connector and terminal #2 for the ignition cable connector for the adjacent collision protection system/ignition stage
- Terminal #2 for the relevant ignition cable connector and terminal #1 for the ignition cable connector for the adjacent collision protection system/ignition stage
- Terminal #2 for the relevant ignition cable connector and terminal #2 for the ignition cable connector for the adjacent collision protection system/ignition stage.
Remedy as necessary.
Hint:
- Check which collision protection/ignition stage has this fault type
- Start by checking for a short-circuit to the ignition cable for another collision protection system/ignition stage that has the longest shared cable routing with the relevant ignition cable.

Hint: After carrying out the repair check that the fault has been remedied.
- Switch off the ignition. Wait 10 seconds
- Disconnect the battery negative lead
- Reinstall the connectors, components etc.
- Ignition on
- Connect the battery negative lead. Wait 10 seconds.
Warning! There must not be anyone inside the passenger compartment when the battery is connected.

The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.
Do you want to exit fault-tracing?
