Removal

Removing the transmission

Hint: Remove the lower screws (these are difficult to access) between the transmission and engine before the engine/transmission unit is placed on a suitable surface. Remove the remaining screws. Carefully remove the transmission. For automatic transmissions remove the converter screws.

Removing the flywheel and carrier plate
Remove the carrier plate. See: Carrier plate, replacing, B8444S, TF-80SC AWD Service and Repair.

Place the engine in a stand
Use 999 2520 FLOOR STAND 999 2520 Floor Stand , 999 5297 ENGINE FIXTURE 999 5297 Engine Fixture and 998 9721 SCREW SET 998 9721 Screw Set.
drain the oil. See: Oil/oil filter, replacing, B8444S Service and Repair.

Exposing

Exposing the engine

Remove:
- engine cable harness, note the position of the connectors
- manifold, see: Exhaust manifold/gasket, cylinder 1, 3, 5 and 7 (bank 1), replacing, B8444S Exhaust Manifold/Gasket, Cylinder 1, 3, 5 And 7 (Bank 1), Replacing
- manifold, see: Exhaust manifold/gasket, cylinder 2, 4, 6 and 8 (bank 2), replacing, B8444S Exhaust Manifold/Gasket, Cylinder 2, 4, 6 And 8 (Bank 2), Replacing
- the alternator, see: Generator (GEN), replacement, B8444S Service and Repair.
