Drive shaft seal rear final drive housing, replacing

Special tools:
999 5591 Punch 999 5591 Punch

Preparatory work
To remove drive shafts, see Drive shaft rear, replacing Drive Shaft Rear, Replacing.

Removing the drive shaft seal




Use a jimmy bar to carefully remove the seal.

Installing the drive shaft seal




Lubricate the lip of the new seal using wheel bearing grease, P/N 116 1251 (400 g).
Use tool 999 5591 Punch 999 5591 Punch.

Note! It is important that the seal is positioned correctly. The positions differ between the left and right-hand sides. See below.

Positioning the seals




Tap in the seals to the correct depth between the drift and the final drive housing.

Note! There are different depths for the left and right-hand sides between the flange of the drift and the final drive housing.

Left side: the measurement (A) must be 0.5 mm; measured from the surface of the hooks on the nut.
Right-hand side: the dimension (B) must be 6 mm. The seal must be flush with the housing surface.

Filling and checking the oil level
Top up and check the oil level in the final drive. See Final Drive, Replacing.
