Removal
Hint: The methods displays replacement on the left-hand side but is identical to the right-hand side.
Removing wheels
Raise the car.
Remove the wheel.
Preparatory work
Push up the suspension to the specified measurement to detach the screwed joint between the control arms/struts. See Tensioner 999 5659, User instructions User Instructions.
Disconnecting the wheel spindle
Push up the rear suspension using tensioner 999 5659 Tension caliper 999 5659 Tension Caliper 500 mm between the fender edge and the center of the wheel hub.
Remove:
- the parking brake cable from the mounting in the tie rod
- the screw for the drive shaft - wheel hub (1)
- the screw for the tie rod mounting (2)
- the screw for the control arm mounting (3)
- the nut for the anti-roll bar link mounting (4). Counterhold using a Torx wrench so that the boot does not rotate
- the screw for the lateral link mounting (5).
Removing the drive shaft from the wheel hub
Install mobile jack 998 5972 JACK 998 5972 Jack under the wheel spindle and raise carefully.
Note! Pull out the drive shaft from the wheel hub whilst raising the wheel spindle. Angle the shaft past the wheel spindle.
Release the tensioner so that the control arm hangs in the shock absorber.
Removing the drive shaft from the final drive housing
Use a large screwdriver. Position the screwdriver tip between the constant velocity joint housing and the final drive housing.
Tap firmly so that the snap ring for the drive shaft releases. Pull out the drive shaft. Do not damage the drive shaft seal.
Install sealing plug 999 7060 Plug 999 7060 Plug.
Installation
Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening Torque
Installing the drive shaft in the final drive housing
Lubricate the drive shaft mating surface using P/N 116 1329-6 (0.5 liter container).
Press the drive shaft into the final drive housing. Check that the snap ring is in the groove in the final drive.
Check by pulling the constant velocity joint on the drive shaft.
Installing the drive shaft on the wheel hub
Lubricate the drive shaft splines using a small amount of oil.
Position the drive shaft in the wheel hub. Carefully lower the mobile jack.
Remove the mobile jack.
Press up the control arm and tensioner to the previous specified measurement so that the screws can be installed.
Note! After installing the screws, press tensioner 999 5659 Tension caliper 999 5659 Tension Caliper up to the normal position, see Tensioner 999 5659, User instructions User Instructions , before tightening the screws
Install:
- 1 M12 screw for the lateral link mounting (5). Tighten
- 1 M12 nut for the lateral link mounting (4). Tighten. Counterhold using a Torx wrench so that the boot does not rotate
- 1 M12 screw for the lateral link mounting (3). Tighten
- 1 M12 screw for the tie rod mounting (2). Tighten
- 1 M10 screw to the drive shaft - wheel hub (1). Tighten
- the parking brake cable and mounting for the tie rod.
Remove the tensioner.
Installing wheels
Install the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
