Incorrect Gear Ratio
Incorrect gear ratio
Checking the adjustment of the gear-shift position sensor
- Ignition on
- Read off the position of the gear selector.
Move the gear selector into all positions. Check that the gear-shift positions are updated.
Note! Select the correct gear lever carrier from the list.
Hint: If the display shows an undefined position (O2 for example) the gear position sensor is incorrectly adjusted.
Remedy as necessary

No - Checking the quality and level of transmission fluid
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the quality and level of transmission fluid
Note! The quality and level of transmission fluid is vital to transmission function. It is therefore important that these are correct. Fluid level is also affected by its temperature.
- Ignition on
- Read the fluid temperature.
Check the transmission fluid level. If it is low, check the transmission for leaks and then top off the fluid.
Check the fluid quality.
If the fluid smells burnt, change the transmission fluid.
In addition, check the transmission fluid for an abnormal amount of particles by taking a sample with the dipstick.
If the transmission fluid contains an abnormal amount of particles, replace the transmission.

- Test drive the vehicle following: Test drive schedule, description Test Drive Schedule, Description
- Check for any clearly audible noises from the gearbox. Check for malfunctions.
Does the transmission exhibit any noises or function problems?
Yes - Replacing the gearbox
No - Replacing the control system/transmission

Resetting the adaptation
Resetting adaptation and the counter for "Transmission oil change"
Hint: The transmission has torque controlled adaptive pressure control. Pressure control means that the transmission regulates the pressure itself during each gear shift. This avoids harsh gear shifting. Each gear shift is evaluated by the control module and stored in the memory. This allows for compensation for wear and tear in the transmission and clutch. It is important that the adaptation in the memory is reset after the transmission has been repaired. This is to ensure normal operation. The oil is replaced during repair; the "Transmission oil change" counter must be reset. If the counter is not reset when the fluid is drained and replaced, there is a risk that a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be stored in incorrect circumstances.
Note! This applies only if the transmission or one of the components in the transmission have been replaced.
- Ignition on.
Click on the VCT2000 symbol to reset the adaptation and counter.
