Brake caliper, replacing

Note! The brake calipers are painted. Take care when working on the brakes.

Removal

Collecting brake fluid




Remove the wheel.
Secure the pedal in the depressed position. Use a pedal jack.
Remove the brake pads. See Brake pad, replacing Brake Pad, Replacing.
Clean the brake caliper thoroughly.
Remove the protective cap from the bleed nipple.
Install a plastic hose on the nipple.
Open the bleed nipple. Collect the brake fluid in a container (bottle). Shut the bleed nipple.

Removing the brake caliper




Slacken the off brake hose approximately half a turn.
Remove the screws holding brake caliper.
Unscrew the brake caliper from the brake hose.
Drain the remaining brake fluid.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening torque Tightening Torque.

Installing the brake caliper and brake pads
Thread the brake caliper onto the brake hose. Do not tighten.
Install the screws for the brake caliper.
Tighten the brake hose.
For tightening torques, see Tightening torque Tightening Torque.

Note! The brake hose must not be twisted. If necessary alter the hose at the other end (brake pipe end).

Install the brake pads. See Brake pad, replacing Brake Pad, Replacing.

Bleeding brake systems
Fill and bleed the brake system.

Note! Use only Volvo Genuine parts brake fluid (Volvo DOT 4+).

Finishing

Check:
- the function of the brakes after bleeding. Check that there is no leakage
- brake fluid level.
Depress the brake pedal a few times.
Check the level of the brake fluid reservoir.
Top up if necessary.
