Brake disc, replacing

Removal

Preparatory work

Note! The brake calipers are painted. Be careful when working with the brakes.

Rear brake only
Remove the panel covering the parking brake lever. See Replacing the parking brake lever Replacing the Parking Brake Lever.
Release the handbrake adjuster. See Handbrake, brake shoes, replacing Service and Repair.

Removing the brake caliper





Remove:
- the wheel
- both screws holding the brake caliper.
Hang up the brake caliper using a piece of wire.

Removing the brake disc





Remove:
- the screw from the brake disc
- the brake disc.

Cleaning and checking





Note! Cleaning is important to prevent lateral run-out of the brake disc.

Clean the hub flange before installing the new brake disc.
Check the hub. If it is damaged, measure the lateral run out. See Rear wheel hub, measuring lateral runout Rear Wheel Hub, Measuring Lateral Runout.

Installation

Note! For tightening torques, see Tightening torque Tightening Torque.

Installing the brake disc





Note! Be careful when handling the new brake disc. Careless handling can cause damage to the brake disc (warping).

Install:
- the brake disc
- the 1 M6 screw from the brake disc
- the brake caliper. See Brake caliper, replacing Brake Caliper, Replacing. Use new mounting screws
- the brake pads. See Brake pad, replacing Brake Pad, Replacing.

Checking the brake fluid level




Depress the brake pedal a few times.
Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir. Top up if necessary.

Finishing

Rear brake only
Adjust the parking brake. See Handbrake, brake shoes, replacing Service and Repair.
Install the panel over the parking brake lever. See Replacing the parking brake lever Replacing the Parking Brake Lever.
Install the wheel. See Installing wheels Service and Repair.
