3. Checking the Gear-Shift Position Sensor
Checking The Gear-Shift Position Sensor
- Ignition off
- Disconnect the transmission connector
- Connect an ohmmeter between terminals #6 and #7 on the transmission connector (transmission side)
- Ignition key in the radio position (I).
Press the "Shift-lock Override" button. Move the gear selector to all gear positions. Check the resistance.
The resistance should be approximately 0 Ohm in positions P and N and infinite in all other positions.
Replace the gear-shift position sensor if the resistance is incorrect.
NOTE: With the ignition on and the transmission disconnected, the transmission control module (TCM) may store diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). If the ignition has been on, erase any stored DTCs.
Other Information:
- To disconnect the transmission connector, see Solenoid control system, replacing
- To replace the gear-shift position sensor, see Gear-shift position sensor, position.
Was the resistance OK?
