Passenger airbag module
Disassembly
Preparations
- make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
- ignition off.
- disconnect the battery negative lead.
Warning! During assembly, the ignition must be in position II. Then reconnect the battery negative lead according to Conclusion. Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.
Removing the glove compartment
Remove:
- 6 Torx 20 screws for the glove compartment insert.
- the cover for the CD ROM reader. (Only cars equipped with RTI system.)
Removing the ignition cable for the SRS airbag
Warning! The battery must not be connected when the SRS ignition cable connector is being removed or installed.
Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed airbag module. This could deploy the airbag.
Remove the SRS ignition cable from the side of the passenger airbag module.
Note! Take care when removing the SRS ignition cable. There is a risk of damage to the SRS ignition cable if not handled carefully.
Removing the screws for the SRS airbag
Remove 3 M6 screws, 10 mm from the underside of the passenger airbag module.
When installing, torque tighten to 10 Nm .
Removing the ventilation and loudspeaker grilles
Remove the ventilation grilles by pulling the mounting bracket behind the grille with a hook.
Removing the panel
Remove 11 Torx 20 screws for the panel.
Caution! If the panel with a non-deployed passenger airbag module is removed temporarily, it must be placed with the top facing upwards in a protected place.
Remove the climate control system by first removing the stereo. Then press out the climate control system from the inside.
Removing the SRS airbag from the panel
Warning! Under no circumstances use an ohmmeter or other live measuring instrument to take readings on a disconnected, non-deployed airbag module. This could deploy the airbag.
Caution! Remove only the illustrated screws and nuts.
Warning! The passenger airbag module must never be taken apart, repaired or moved to another vehicle. For handling of a replaced module, see Handling replaced SRS airbags / seat belt tensioners Handling Replaced SRS Airbags/Seat Belt Tensioners.
Remove 6 M6 nuts, 10 mm from passenger airbag module.
When installing, torque tighten to 10 Nm .
Reassembly
Assemble in reverse order
Then continue with finishing.
Warning! Before assembly, the ignition must be in position II. Then reconnect the battery negative lead. Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.
Conclusion
SRS Airbag date decal
Note! Do not forget to replace the steering wheel module decal on the driver's side B-post with a new decal.
The date decal is supplied with the new passenger airbag module.
Final check
Warning! Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.
When all components have been installed:
- switch the ignition to position II.
- reconnect the battery negative lead.
Check that:
- SRS indicator lamp in the combined instrument panel does not light constantly.
Fault-trace if the lamp is lit constantly.
Note! Check that the SRS warning lamp is not defective by turning the key to position II. The SRS warning lamp should light and go out after approximately 3 seconds.
