Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair






SRS control module

Disassembly

Preparations




- make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
- ignition off.
- disconnect the battery negative lead.

Removing the SRS control module





Warning! The battery must not be connected when the control module is being removed or installed.

Remove:
- panels and cover. Replacing center console Replacing Center Console.
- the screws and connectors. Replacing center console Replacing Center Console.

Note! The C70 Coupe does not have the rear switch on the center console.

- 1 screw for the bracket and push the bracket and connectors to one side.
- 1 control module cover.
- 3 Torx 30 screws for the control module.
- 1 screw for the connector.
- lift up the control module.

Removing the connector for the SRS control module





Remove:
- the control module connector by pressing in the catch (1) and folding the striker plate forward (2).
- the connector from the control module by following the directional arrow (3) in the illustration.

Caution! Avoid touching the control module terminal pins. There is a risk of static discharge which could damage the control module.

Reassembly

Installing the connector for the SRS control module





Warning! The battery must not be connected when the control module is being removed or installed.

Install:
- the connector to the control module by following the directional arrow (1) in the illustration.
- control module connector by folding the striker plate (2) back until it has passed the catch. This must be done before the control module is fixed in place.

Installing the SRS control module




Install 3 Torx 30 screws. Tightening torque for the control module: 10 Nm .

Caution! The screws have pressed sheet metal threads and must be positioned so that the existing thread is not damaged. Take care not to damage the ground plate during installation.

Note! Use the old screws. When using replacement screws, use a type approved for connection to ground.

Caution! It is important that the control module is securely mounted onto the bodywork if it is to operate properly.

The electrical ground connection is direct through the mounting screws. It is therefore very important that the mounting screws are in good contact with the bodywork.
Other components are reinstalled in reverse order.

Conclusion

Final check





Warning! Ensure that nobody is in the car when the battery is being connected.

When all components have been installed:
- switch the ignition to position II.
- reconnect the battery negative lead.

Check that:
- The SRS indicator lamp in the combined instrument panel is not lit constantly.
Fault-trace if the lamp is lit constantly.

Note! Check that the SRS warning lamp is not defective by turning the key to position II. The SRS warning lamp should light and go out after approximately 3 seconds.
