Air Door Cable: Service and Repair

Replacing or adjusting control cables / mechanical rear section and control panel / front section (Manual climate control / STANDARD)

Replacing or adjusting control cables / mechanical rear section and control panel / front section (Manual climate control / STANDARD)

Preparations, passenger side




- Remove the glove compartment. See Interior, exterior Panel and SRS passenger airbag module Panel and SRS Passenger Airbag Module
- Remove the soundproofing panel. See Interior, exterior Dashboard Dashboard
- Remove the floor air ducts.





- Disconnect the control cable from the climate control.

Preparations, driver's side




- Remove the soundproofing panel. See Interior, exterior Dashboard Dashboard
- Remove the carpet mountings
- Disconnect the control cable from the climate control.

Preparations, center console
- Remove the radio. Pull the radio out and place it on the center console to expose the radio compartment.

Note! The radio may scratch panels etc.

Removing control panel / front section




- Remove the passenger compartment heater controls
- Unscrew the screws
- Disconnect the connectors
- Remove the control panel / front section.

Removing control cables / mechanical rear section




- Disconnect the control cables / mechanical rear section by disengaging the catches
- Remove the control cables / mechanical rear section through the radio opening.

Note! The control cables may scratch panels etc.

Replacing control cables on the mechanical rear section





Removal
- Slacken off the cable mounting from the rear section
- Remove the control cables from the rear section.

Installation
- Install the control cables on the rear section
- Install the cable mounting on the rear section.

Installing control cables / mechanical rear section




- Position the control cables / mechanical rear section through the radio opening
- Guide the control cables into position
- Pull the connectors through the opening to the control panel / front section
- Install the control cables / mechanical rear section.

Installing control panel / front section




- Connect the connectors
- Screw the control panel / front section into place
- Install the passenger compartment heater controls.

Installing control cables on climate control




- Install the cable on the lever
- Turn the passenger compartment selector as far as possible
- Press the lever to its lower position
- Install the cable sleeve in the cable mounting.

Check




- Turn the passenger compartment heater selector clockwise as far as possible. Listen for the sound when the damper reaches its limit position
- Check that the both the passenger compartment heater selector limit positions are parallel with the control panel. Otherwise adjust. See Adjusting passenger compartment heater selector limit positions.

Adjusting passenger compartment heater selector limit positions




- Remove the control cable sleeve from the climate control system
- Turn the passenger compartment selector as far as possible
- Press the lever to its lower position
- Install the cable sleeve in the cable mounting
- Check the limit positions of the passenger compartment heater selector. See Check.

Finishing work




- Install the radio if applicable
- Install the carpet mountings on the driver's side
- Install the floor air duct
- Install the soundproofing panels. See Exterior Dashboard Dashboard and Interior Dashboard Dashboard
- Install the glove compartment. See Interior, exterior Panel and SRS passenger airbag module Panel and SRS Passenger Airbag Module.
