Convertible Top Motor: Service and Repair






Replacing motors

Note! Before starting work, see Preparations before work Preparations Before Work.



Replacing the convertible top motor

Removing the convertible top motor




Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.

Remove:
- the motor for the tensioner rib, see Removing the motor for the tension bow
- the convertible top potentiometer on the right-hand side. See Replacing the potentiometer Replacing the Potentiometer
- the connector
- the tie strap.




Detach the gas strut from the flange.
Remove the 3 screws from the mounting for the convertible top motor.
Turn and pull out the motor unit.
Replace the motor.

Hint: Use special tool 981 4020 Glue gun 220V UK 981 4020 Glue Gun 220V UK and a ratchet to remove the screws from the mounting for the convertible top motor.

Installing the convertible top motor
Install in reverse order.
Use a new tie strap for the wiring.

Replacing the motor for the front lock

Removing the motor for the front lock




Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.





Remove:
- the cover for the front lock motor in the convertible top
- the connector
- the 2 nuts for the mounting for the lock motor.

Note! Counterhold so that the rubber mounting for the motor is not damaged.

Angle the motor and pull the drive wires from the locking.
Remove the drive wires secured with a spline joint.
Replace the motor.

Installing the motor for the front lock
Install in reverse order.

Replacing the motor for the tension bow

Removing the motor for the tension bow




Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
The rear side windows must be lowered when removing the tension bow motor.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.




Remove the 3 screws for the strap.





Remove:
- the weatherstrip for the rear side window, see Replacing weatherstrips Service and Repair
- the 2 nuts for the triangular seal on the tension bow mounting.
Fold up the plastic strip and the material where the weatherstrip was positioned.





Remove:
- the tie straps for the wiring
- the connector
- the stop screw
- the brass bushing
- the 3 screws for the tension bow motor.
Replace the motor.

Note! Lower the tension bow by hand The tension bow must be almost closed to remove the motor.

Installing the motor for the tension bows
Install in reverse order.
Use new tie straps for the wiring.

Replacing the motor for the rear latch

Removing the motor for the rear latch




Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.




Remove the 12 screws from the bracket for the motors.
Fold the motor bracket forward.

Note! The bracket for the motors may be secured with butyl tape.

Heat up the metal with a hot air gun.





Remove:
- the 2 nuts for the motor
- the locking for the wires.

Note! Counterhold so that the rubber mounting for the motor is not damaged.

Replace the motor.

Note! Ensure that the drive wires do not move while replacing the motor.

Installing the motor for the rear latch
Install in reverse order.

Hint: Ensure that the drive wires are properly secured before installing the motor.

Operate the convertible top manually. See Emergency operation Emergency Operation.

Replacing the motor for the cover plate lock

Removing the motor for the cover plate lock




Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.




Remove the 12 screws from the bracket for the motors.
Fold the motor bracket forward.

Note! The bracket for the motors may be secured with butyl tape.

Heat up the metal with a hot air gun.




Remove the 3 nuts for the motor.

Note! Counterhold so that the rubber mounting for the motor is not damaged.

Replace the motor.

Note! Ensure that the drive wires do not move while replacing the motor.

Installing the motor for the cover plate lock





Note! Do not forget the spacer washer. If the washer is not installed, there will be no function.

If the drive wires have moved, adjust so that the measurement A = 45 mm from the edge.

Note! This dimension must be identical on both sides. The lock must be open.

Note! Ensure that the flanges on the wire align in the socket for the motor.

Install in reverse order.
Operate the convertible top manually. See Emergency operation Emergency Operation.
Check whether the locks click at the same time when opening and locking the left and right-hand sides.
Ensure that locks are positioned in the same way. If not, rotate one of the locks and try again.
