Replacing the potentiometer

Replacing the potentiometer, rear locking arm

Caution! Removed potentiometers must not be reinstalled. Their function cannot be guaranteed due to play between the turning plate in the potentiometer and the shaft.

Removing the potentiometer, rear locking arm




Ignition on.
Set the cover in the position illustrated.

Note! The rear latch must be in its mechanical limit position. Use the Volvo Scan Tool (VST) to achieve this position.




Ignition off.
The potentiometer is placed on the left of the 2 rear latches.

Remove:
- the connector
- 1 Allen screw.

Note! Note the position of the potentiometer housing in relation to the rear latch.

Carefully pull the potentiometer off the shaft.

Installing the potentiometer, rear locking arm

Caution! The potentiometer must be secured straight on the shaft. Use the screw of the potentiometer as a guide. The potentiometer is factory set and cannot be rotated.

Install:
- the potentiometer
- the Allen screw. Tighten
- the connector.
The potentiometer must be calibrated after replacement. See Programming and calibrating the convertible system Programming and Relearning.

Caution! Removed potentiometers must not be reinstalled. Their function cannot be guaranteed due to play between the turning plate in the potentiometer and the shaft.

Removing the potentiometer for the convertible top




Ignition on.
Set the convertible top and the cover in the position illustrated.

Note! The convertible top must be in its lower limit position. Use the Volvo Scan Tool (VST) to achieve this position.




Ignition off.

Remove:
- the connector
- 1 Allen screw.

Note! Note the position of the potentiometer housing in relation to the linkage.

Carefully pull the potentiometer off the shaft.
Allow the potentiometer to remain in the cable harness until the new potentiometer is installed.

Installing the potentiometer for the convertible top

Caution! The potentiometer must be secured straight on the shaft. Use the screw of the potentiometer as a guide. The potentiometer is factory set and cannot be rotated.

Install:
- the potentiometer
- the Allen screw. Tighten.
Tighten the cable provisionally.

Caution! Check that the cable is not trapped.

Connect the connector.




Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Separate the connector.
Remove the original tie straps and the original potentiometer.
Route the new cable in the same way as the original routing.
Secure the new cable using clamps.
Connect the connector.
The potentiometer must be calibrated after replacement. See Programming and calibrating the convertible system Programming and Relearning.
