Replacing, adjusting and emergency opening of the cover

Replacing the cover
Removing the cover
Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Disconnect the battery negative lead.
Remove:
- the upper panel in the cargo compartment
- 1 screw for the rear hinge on the left and right-hand sides.
Remove:
- the gas strut in the upper mounting on both the left and right-hand sides
- the connector for the high-level stop lamp.
Remove 1 screw for the rear hinge on both the left and right-hand sides.
Ignition on.
Carefully lower the cover as illustrated.
Lift off the cover.
Replace the cover.
Installing the cover
Note! The rear latch arms must be in the same position as when they were removed.
Check that the guide wheel for the cover is correctly positioned.
Install in reverse order.
Adjusting the cover
Loosely screw the hinges into place.
Adjust the cover so that it is parallel with the edge of the storage space for the convertible top. The distance (C) between the cover and the trunk lid must be 4-6 mm. Vertically (D), the cover must be 0 - 2 mm above the trunk lid (measured on hard surface).
The distance (B) between the cover and bodywork must be approximately 4-6 mm. The height (A) must be 0 - 2 mm.
Tighten the screws for the hinges. Tighten to 25 Nm .
Adjust the Z support so that the vertical alignment of the cover is even with the edge of the storage space for the convertible top.
Adjust using the rubber spacer or the bracket.
If necessary, adjust the rear latch arms. See Replacing the latches and locks Service and Repair.
Adjusting the cover guide
Adjust the cover guide as illustrated if the movement of the cover is uneven when opening or closing.
After adjusting the cover, check the clearance at the side between the edge of the cover guide and the support reel on the edge of the tensioner arm. Make sure that they are not touching.
If necessary, adjust the rear latch arms. See Replacing the latches and locks Service and Repair.
Replacing the outer cover
Removing the outer cover
Set the cover in the position illustrated.
Remove:
- the cover
- the 6 nuts for the cover guide
- the 4 screws for the cover hinges
- the 9 screws for the outer cover.
Separate the cover and outer cover.
Replace the outer cover.
Installing the outer cover
Install in reverse order.
If necessary, refer to installing the center and outer cover weatherstrips.
Replacing the retaining clips, cover

Set the cover in the position illustrated.
Remove 1 clip per side.
Install:
1 clip per side. Distance A=62 mm.
Replacing the rubber profile on the underside of the cover

Install the rubber profile as illustrated.
The rubber profile reduces noise.
Replacing the side piece, cover

Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Press the snap fasteners together and press the side piece outwards
Note! Ensure that the foil remains in place and does not rip.
Replacing the seal, side piece
Press the snap fasteners together on the frame.
Replace the seal.
Install in reverse order.
Installing the side piece, cover
Note! Bond the foil if it comes away at the edge when removing the side piece. Ensure that there are no ridges in the foil.
Smooth the edges around the hole for the side piece.
Bond the new side piece into position. Check that there is no adhesive on any of the visible surfaces.
Emergency opening of the cover
Emergency opening of the cover
The cover may need to be opened if the wires for the cover plate lock have come loose or if there is a fault in the cover plate lock.
The following must be carried out:
- Open the trunk lid
- Push the upholstery to one side so that the lock for the cover can be opened manually
- Turn approximately 1/2 turn to release the cover plate lock.
Note! Check whether it is the left or right lock which released.
- Make up a tool that is approximately 450 mm long and has a 90° angle at one end
- Carefully lift up the cover on the rear side panel. Insert the tool between the cover and the lid, down towards the lock for the cover.
Press the indicator as illustrated.
Note! Hold the tool until the cover is completely up.
Lift the cover upwards.
Note! The cover may be difficult to move up, but it must not be stiff when it is lifted.
Replace the wire or damaged cover components.
If the cover on the rear side panel is damaged, replace it with a new one. See Panels Panels.
Adjusting the cover
The cover must be open during adjustment.
Adjust using the lock nut so that the flange butts lightly against the edge of the cover mounting.
Close the cover after adjustment. Check that the overlap between the lid and the cover is even.

Ignition off.
Remove 1 screw for the guide.
Ignition on.
Set the convertible top to the position illustrated.
Ignition off.
Remove the guide and 1 washer.

Install in reverse order.
