Signal Too Low. Intermittent Fault

Signal too low. Intermittent fault

Check connectors and cables
Check fuel level sensor connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.

Note! Vehicles with AWD. There are 2 fuel level sensors, one in each pump unit.

Check the fuel level sensor's resistance. For resistance values, see: Sensors [1][2]Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators

Note! Vehicles with AWD. There are 2 fuel level sensors, one in each pump unit. The sensors are connected in series with each other. If the total resistance in the circuit deviates from normal value, measure each sensor separately. For both total resistance and sensors' own resistance, see: Sensors [1][2]Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators

Check signal cable between fuel level sensor #2 and combined instrument panel #A5 (breakout box #5) for an intermittent short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults and an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.
Check ground lead between fuel level sensor #1 and combined instrument panel #A4 (breakout box #4) for an intermittent open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Intermittent faults Checking Wiring and Terminals. Intermittent Faults.

Other information:
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting breakout box, Combined instrument panel Connecting the Breakout Box.

Fault-tracing information
If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).

Do you want to view the information again?

Yes - Attempt New Test

No - FAULT FOUND
